Mac vs PC (pg. 3)

MAC it's always been and will always be.

If you're still getting into arguments saying *macs suck* well I think you are most definitely immature.

Mac has it's advantages
PC has it's advantages

but Mac for a professional AUDIO environnement is the best thing!

Mac gets you the job done quickly and RIGHT , without headaches (most of the time) Can you say the same about PC ?

the worst part in all of this, is off course a lot of you bitch at MAC OS, but always love saying F*** Microsoft and Bill Gates and his crappy winblows ...... don't deny it!

I bought a mac back in september, it's a G3 beige 266 mhz, and before you start laughing, guess what ! I can do 150 meg scans with it and it doesn't cause me ANY trouble. I'm sure if I even wanted to I could record with it and it'd be perfect ( I need a bigger hard drive ).

Now before going any further here is what makes the big difference between a mac and a pc : it's an investment that will last you a life time.

MACs age well, and in a couple years you'll still be able to use it without needing major upgrades.
PCs are a pain in the ass cause you always gotta upgrade when new apps come out etc.

A mac is for a life time, a pc is only for a year or two.

But if you're on a budget, go ahead buy a pc..... now days the stuff is so cheap you can get a decent machine close to nothing cost wise.

Our goal was to paint an accurate picture of what "Star Wars Episode II, Attack of the Clones" would look like long before filming was even started. Our AMD Athlon™ MP processor-based systems are ideal for running the extremely powerful software we rely upon. People who visit our lab can see how, using these systems, we are able to answer almost all of the creative questions from the start of shooting to the end of postproduction.”

So i hope this will chill everyone out

and may I ask what OS they use?

there's other stuff used in the film industry that most people in here haven't even heard about :
SGI , Alpha procs and such

FFS OPERATING SYSTEM = OS

it's not only for Mac

and yes the os they use has importance

you ever heard of ................ BeOS ?

NT ?

maybe you have

and yes IT HAS IMPORTANCE!
prestige
ok man... disregard the movie quote....
just pay attention to my facts on specs and auido use. I listed a machine that outperformed the G4.

fyi: all the benches were on NT

So with that in mind...all you AMD fanboys out there...keep in mind that while the Athlon has superior floating point performance compared to a P4 of similar clock speed, the fact remains that Intel still wins in outright performance because the efficiency of the Athlon cannot overcome the sheer brute force of the clock speed advantage enjoyed by the P4s or Xeons. It's a simple fact right now.
prestige
i dont think so buddy.....

check it here
Dzokayi
Of course you realize that the Xeon is available at 2.6GHz, and the P4 at 2.8GHz. Couple the raw speed advantage with the fact that the fastest Athlon MP available is only 2200, you can plainly see that a Xeon platform will give you the best performance.

I am not knocking AMD...The competition between them and Intel is great for us as consumers. All I am saying is that if you want the absolute fastest right now, barring Sun, etc. - Intel is the way to go...that's all.
prestige
yes i understand...but my friend, you are referring to uniprocessing.

Intel infact does not offer those speeds in dual processing.
Available speeds for Intel Xeon MP: 2GHz, 1.90GHz, 1.60GHz, 1.50GHz, 1.40GHz

AMD Athalon MP 2200+ still ranks higher..

Dzokayi
P4 = single processor, but not because of any limitaion in the chip design, but because there isn't a chipset that currently supports it, although VIA has indicated that they may release a motherboard with this feature enabled.

The Xeon MP you are referring to is for 4-way plus designs. The 'normal' Xeons are all capable of operation in dual configurations.

But back to the speed thing, a cursory check on pricewatch shows Xeon 2.6GHz readily available for purchase, and 2cpu.com had a review about a month ago featuring a dual Xeon 2.4 setup.

Cheers...

/sorry for the thread hijack

haha
i'm not goin' down that easy..;)
