For those who maybe missed it, Boiler Room celebrated the release of the sequel of Trainspotting with a party full of throwback sets to the 90's. I haven't heard the other sets but they also had booked Goldie, Head High (Shed), Modeselektor and Ellen Allien.
I thought some people might be interested in Sasha's set, this tracklist could have been taken from any of his sets in the 90's there's even a bunch of trance in there.

I was wondering when someone would make a thread about this. Someone gave me a heads-up when Sasha broadcast it on Facebook. I was just about to go to bed, but couldn't miss out on the prospect of a classics set from The Man Like.
I believe the idea was to play tunes from the era when Trainspotting came out, specifically 96/97. I managed to ID most of the set in the end:

Not a bad little set, fairly true to what he was playing back then. For the first few tunes I did wonder if he was going to make it some revisionist techno set with loads of silly looping, but once Seadog came in I began to chair-rave hard. Some of the mixing isn't fantastic, however.

I think the best part about watching the video is seeing how much Sasha is enjoying himself, as well. Particularly during Netherworld, he looks very nostalgic.

Christ, I have not listened to Classics enough lately. Not only did I call Netherworld 'Underworld' in our correspondence, Jack, but I totally thought 'East' was 'Wavespeech.'
I know I'm familiar with 'Blackout,' but I just can't think of it right now :(
All-in-all, very much inspiring to make another classics mix myself, if I can get some free time to do so.
Like you said, Jack, it was great to see Sasha having fun - though I was a bit concerned he was going to play that 'Annihilate' accapella loop throughout the entire thing :stongue:

Well, now. Apparently it's possible to play a track from Taucher, of all people, in a Boiler Room set in the year 2017 and not empty the floor with it. Impressive. I always thought that both Sasha and Digweed were decidedly uninterested in playing these kinds of oldschool sets, but after Digweed cramming out that old Heaven set on Transitions and now this, maybe they both have warmed to the idea over the years.
Sasha was smart here, and truly picked out some stuff that still sounds really good 20+ years on. Even Boiler Room likes Netherworld! As expected with a one hour set, however, he has to stop playing before things truly get going. The crowd doesn't really get going until halfway in, either. I would've felt so cheated if I had to go home after just an hour of this.
So, when is the Human Traffic rave with Carl Cox happening?

It's possible he means that S&D set from Ministry Of Sound, 1997, that Diggers put on his radio show back in September ahead of playing with Sasha at the Social Festival.
Although neither of them have ever played proper classics sets, Digweed has long been open to dropping an old classic in many of his sets, and he's aired a few live sets from the '90s on Transitions down the years. Bedrock have also commissioned a lot of update remixes of their old favourites.
Sasha, by contrast, sniffily refused to play any old classics for years with a few rare exceptions, and wouldn't talk about the good old days in interviews if he could avoid it. This sudden sea-change probably has a lot to do with how trendy it is to drop an old trance classic in a modern set right now.
