When Will Trance Become Mainstream?

| When do you think trance will become as big as the other mainstay genres. I mean such as rap, rock, pop. I'm not referring to euro - trash from the likes of such producers as Scooter and the beloved Dj Allicraper. I mean when will we be reading about Amin Van Buuren in the top 40. When will Ferry be on the cover or Entertain ment Weekly. When will TRUE trance break to the top and stay there forever not just another trend. Not saying it is right now but as far as the mainstream America is concerned Dj Mystick and the alligator song is great trance. When and what do you think needs to happen before this is a reality? On the contrary would you prefer this never happen? |

Most likely never. And I hope it never becomes a reality in this country. Trance entering mainstream will be the ultimate downfall, and corruption will prevail. This countries music industry strives off money, popularity, phases, trends, and bandwagoning. Our music represents something else farther and more deeper than any other form of music out there. In other words, this country can't handle it. It won't survive. Trance, and electronica in general is a completely aquired taste. No question about it. To most people electronica is strictly just constant bass, with some emotion, not many vocals, and just plain "boring".
I dont think it will EVER make it to the top, like rap, hip hop, rock, etc. Why? Because this music is not really adaptable. Either you like it or you don't, and the majority don't. Music that survives in this country is very adaptable. Electronica isn't. Its not flexible, it won't attract a variety of audiences.
Eitherway, you don't want anything in this country to make it to the top. This country can't handle exposure. Anything here that gets exposed, usually gets overexposed, beaten, slapped, and is then thrown in the trash. Same goes for the music here. Eitherway, it won't survive. Thats why its all been underground for the past 10 years. |

I hope it never becomes mainstream.
The only benefit of it becoming mainstream in the US would be easier access to seeing DJ's.
Other than that, it would just suck, once things go mainstream, especially in the US, they just suck, everything starts getting crappy. |

Trance in itself is a totally dif genre as you know... coming big into the pop charts, there is just no way. Like in the UK, how else u gonna compete against all those big name pop stars and bands? e.g. Kylie, Robbie Williams, Westlife, Atomic Kittens. etc?
Personally, with it being underground etc. its going great! You either like it or u don't... here in Sheffield, UK, where I am, all my mates hate trance, hence I haven't got a following... but if u play cheesy stuff like lasgo, ian van dhal, n-trance, kelly llorenna, then yeah sure... u get all the cheesy crowds like students!
But it is a shame to see that great trance producers never see big money as their tunes are all underground, u get the odd exception like PvD and tiesto releasing their tracks in the pop charts here in the UK. But it doesn't really get anywhere... last one I can rmber being big was Cosmic Gate - firewire.
One of my fave trance tracks is Plastic Boy - Silver Bath, its an excellent tune... I think it deserves a lot! But cause its underground, its not gonna be making much money, but at least the producer will get a lot of respect. |

It got the closest it ever will in 99 in Engalnd. Atb at number 1, Binary Finary getting to 12 etc.
It won;t get there again cos Trance will become less and less popualr with the kids who will think the likes of Scooter and Flip and Fill are trance. You can't blame them for wanting nothing to do with it. And lets face it, it's usually the kids that make up the majority of singles sales and they are all into the rock or rap e!

The higher things get and faster it will fall! that's goes for all music, look at grunge, disco, glam rock, soon it will be teen pop, If trance ever get popular in the mainstream, it will be the end of trance music! because that's when it will be over play, people will get sick of it, the main trance sound will sound alot more poppy to satisfy all the ex-teenie pop fans(litlle girls), but the biggest concern is that there will be so many new "wanna be" Trance stars who wants to cash in on it. that's why no hyped music genre ever last for along time. But to be honest Trance will never be big in the mainstream, it will get more popular and more trance songs will become mainstream hits though, but not the whole genre becoming mainstream, trance is too PURE, there are no cheap GIMMICKS, like with teenie pop or other types music, have you ever seen Armin or PVD wearing a band aid on their faces b/c they want to be cool or tough? do you ever hear trance artists talk about how they were in a gang and been in and out of jail? trance artists don't carry guns around, and show 75% of their fake , they are just ordinary guys who loves trance music, no gimicks, guns or band aids on their faces, and besides it takes too much of imagination and inteligence to listen to trance, there's no lyrics to tell little girls how much they love them or how them won't break little girls' hearts, so trance is not ment for general public it's only for people with inteligence and a good imagination.
I have no worry of trance ever being destroy be mainstream media anytime soon. anybody here agree with me? |

| Maybe sometime in the distant future - but at this point, especially in the US, there's not a chance of it happening soon. I think what you'll see is "cheese" trance/pop hybrids continuing to have commercial success, whereas pure trance remains relatively underground. |
