Wife only like 3 weeks away from baby time, we are trying to get all the small stuff ready. Any last tips from any c0r parents before the big day?
Knowing what to do with a hot-water bottle to keep the baby warm at night might be handy. We used one for both our kids here, but at first I had no clue how to put that towel around it.

I had no idea black ice was a thing. Also, the Darkest Hour is quite amusing.

Football is coming and the Eagles still suck :p
It would be great if there was some Skol going on in the Super Bowl, but I believe the Eagles are the ones flying to Minneapolis next week. Unfortunately, it's just a matter of time until the Vikings and the Timberwolves leave Minnesota out in the cold :(

In a country with no volcanoes, no earthquakes, no hurricanes, no proper tornadoes, no brush fires, no tsunamis, no dangerously venomous animals, indeed with practically nothing from the natural world that can kill you in day-to-day life unless you're being particularly stupid, I can't complain too much about our weather. But black ice is about as dangerous as it gets here. Not only is it very dangerous if you're driving a vehicle or are around affected roads, but it's so bloody hard to even know it's there. You end up fearing every glisten of dampness on every surface. As a cyclist, once I've fallen off once, I'm struck with a constant sensation of paranoid vertigo, that phantom sensation that the bike might pitch out from under me at any moment. That's particularly terrifying if you're cycling on a road and you know there are vehicles right behind you, ready to overtake at the first opportunity.
Last winter was exceptionally mild. It only really frosted over a couple of times, and there were no icy days I can recall. This year has been much colder, and I'll be very happy when spring arrives. You shouldn't have to fear for your life during your morning commute.

Yeah black ice is no joke. Years ago, on Halloween, I was driving home from the bar - I'd only had two drinks hours earlier so I was fine. I was the only person on the road as I headed over the bridge crossing the highway. It was cold as that night, but still just October so no sign of snow any time soon. But as I reached the apex of the bridge, my car suddenly fishtailed as I hit a patch of black ice and I lost control, headed toward the guard rail.
I thought "Holy , this is really it. I'm about to go over the bridge and crash to my fiery death on the highway. I was even driving the speed limit! They'll check my blood alcohol level and say it was drunk driving and my poor mother will have to live with it!"
Then my car did a complete 360 and I ended up in the next lane, totally fine. I just sat there stunned, wondering what I was supposed to do next? Was this an accident? What actually just happened? There were literally no other cars around.
Finally got my head straight and continued on my way home. But I was shook as . I was GOING to go over that bridge. .

I once slipped and fell on black ice in my apartment complex parking lot. :o

Isn't there anything you can put on the wheels?
My parents say people used to put chains in (car) tyres to avoid slippery roads, but this was outlawed because it would damage the asphalt or something... I don't see how something similar could be a problem with bicycles though.
