yea this is starting to make more sense now .. Oakenfold i'm pretty sure played at Connected v3.. but i know he played earlier too at the Automotive building .. (i think??) .. i know Cox played at the party at the automotive .. and as for him (Oakie) playing at Industry , i'm not too sure about that ..
one thing i've noticed tho .. that most of the TA's here weren't really into the scene back then .. a lotta them just got into it in like late 2001 and onwards.. which is when the whole Guvernment super club trance nights started taking over.
cept for a handful of ppl .. i'm glad some of you guys remember those days !! classic ! :D |

| Okenfold played at the 00' Connected Dose party at the BLC, that was the first party I ever went to and was probably the BEST. Something about being with 13,000 other people partying with wicked music. :) |

Connected 1999 made 2000 look like a small operation.
The 2000 stage/lighting setup was about half of what was there the previous year.
...Connected 99 was my first big party, and I was blown away. |

Ahhh the chills you experiance remembering and imagining a time when raving was that big in TO.
BLC, Automotive Building, Science Centre, Citrus, Syrous, Dose, Brighter Days... Sonic State.
R.I.P.
Question: Did the scene get too big for itself and eventually dwindle or would it still be as big as it was if the "government" didn't decide that there was something wrong with 10 000 youth having the times of their lives? |

What happened is that the clubs killed the big raves in a way by bringing in good talent to established locations where speakers, lights and stages didnt have to be setup.
everything is setup in house and promoters found out there's more profit throwing events in clubs because of this
also the city didnt help much either with thier little rave ban
and it's easier to go to a club you're familiar with rather then odd locations where u risk getting busted and having your $40 wasted |

That party kicked ass. Just for the location alone! I remember the music didn't really stand out (not hard enough for me), but it was a fun party all the same...
The Atlantis airport parties were always fun too! |

I think big parties are WAY WAY more profitable than clubnights(as far as I know Gatecrasher, Cream and Godskitchen always lose money on clubnights, but then make load of money during the festivals).
I think there are 2 reasons why big festivals are not organized here:
1) Not enough demand
2) Promoters don't have enough cash to throw into the festival initially(true it will pay off at the end, but who has 100K to invest into it ?)
Simple calculations will tell you everything. 10K people, 50$ ticket.. that's already 500K. Add water sales 3$*10K = 30K at least.
Just the water will cover the headliner. |

Umm..don't forget the police ;) Big party like that is not to welcome around these hear parts *does his hick voice*.
Remember WEMF....
I think we will have to pay off the cops if a huge party ever happened like that. |

i gotta agree.. i think it has a combination of these factors:
1. the government and city ban on large events like back in the day at the CNE.
2. takeover by clubs like Guvernment now bringing in super-DJ's, booking them on long weekends and basically eating up the market share.
3. the people who USED to go to those big parties are all 19+ now and basically are supplying the Guvernment with their clientel for these super clubs.
I've noticed that a lotta TA's just got into the scene in late 2001 and 2002. If some of you fall into this catagory I gotta tell you that if you partied it up back like it was in 2000 and pre-2000 you would totally agree that those were the golden days of Electronic Music in Toronto. Never before did i feel so much unity and good vibes in a large venue with so many people. I think that has to be the closest we've ever come to Europe in terms of the scale of our parties.
So where do i think this is heading?
- parties will move back into the large venues again with time. eventually it'll get more popular with clubs like Guv and Viva spreadin the music to the mainstream masses. Hopefully organizations like goldclub, smirnoff, nokia, etc. will take more initiatives and bring back the parties of old in the CNE venues being able to pay the high police fees to enforce the parties.
and lastly.. of course, they'll all be 19+ :D |
