I can't speak for the club culture here in LA (though it's probably dominated by hip-hop and cheese house/trance) but our underground DJs tend to spin jungle and house. I wish there was more trance around, particularly a progressive trance scene, but alas, none to my knowledge. Unfortunately I'm not old enough to attend Spundae or a number of other events that appear from time to time with big-name DJs.

Pop is of course what you would here the most in Vancouver. The dance scene is pretty diverse right now. I would have to say that crappy boring house(not the good bouncy kind with the fat bass lines and tech melodies) is the most played dance music in the so called underground scene. Progressive seems to be getting bigger, its the new trendy word to through on a flyer these days "progressive"
Trance is dying though :conf: Well at least till the next time Tiesto is in town. Always seems to get people stoked agian.

minimal trance, aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrg!! I love melodic goatrance though, with those cool acid lines.

Up here in New York, it's all hip-hop. In fact hip-hop is so popular here that someone will talk to me about some hip-hop song expecting me to know something about it... like I know anything about hip-hop, which I dont, and certainly am not familiar with any certain hip-hop tunes. I didn't even know there was a genre called hip-hop until 3 years ago, and certainly haven't heard any rap until then as well.

So sue me, I dont pay much heed to mainstream music.

I would rather hear country than hip-hop anyday, although hip-hop appeals more to people who want to appear cool, it's like cosmetic music.

haha... here in windsor clubs, it's the same popular ... but they do play a lot of eurodance and clubby tunes -- - i dont mind that...

but now and then i will get to hear a trancey tune ... and that just makes my night, like the other day this guy played veit - sky...

there's no way in hell you'd hear anything else here in this little town... prog trance haha... i'd bet a fiver folks cant even spell that here...
