| Waking up to the awful news that almost 50 people were senselessly murdered in a mosque in New Zealand this morning is an all too familiar feeling as an American. I remember waking up to the Las Vegas news and feeling numb. Humanity has some very sick individuals and sometimes it seems like you aren't safe anywhere you go. But I refuse to live in fear and will try to enjoy myself til the very end, whenever that is. I just have to hope that one day I'm not extremely unlucky. |

Also this week in Brazil two guys opened fire in a school in the same sense of Columbine.

Worst thing is, we're still mourning the dead of a school shooting here in Brazil, as Kilixpree said, and then this happened.
I find it particularly troubling, not just for the obvious reasons (it involved children, there was no security although police arrived quickly, et cetera), but because I feel we are very vulnerable in my institution. We are usually portrayed as left-of-Bernie on national media, and this is often a justified depiction, and police has already foiled mass shootings plans there, and it wasn't a one-off occurrence.
So, yeah, I was still mourning Suzano, and now this. The hell is wrong with these people!? |

This is what happens when alt-right trolling goes too far.

Very terrible tragedy. We will see what comes of the aftermath. It is great seeing the Parkland students still involved in making their voice heard after their tragedy. It has never been easy to shape public opinion or get things done...but with more and more people motivated to try anything, hopefully something changes for the better.
On a 180deg turn, I've been married 10 years as of Sunday. Heading to a local hotel to sleep all night with the pregnant wife. Oh and having a few Guinesses. :D |

Sad, scary, disappointing how commonplace these acts of hatred and violence are becoming. I'm really becoming so desensitized to it, ugh.
In weekend news, I went to see Pig & Dan last night and it was quite the show! Not the best venue but everything else was on point. Love me a Thursday night jam!
My weekend to work now, not much else going on.
10 years! Congrats Boomer! |

Ugh, so true.
If you've heard any of this twat's manifesto, he references Trump as a glowing "Symbol of White Supremacy" and Claimed He Was Just a 'Regular White Man'.
On a lighter note, I'm off to Santa Barbara for the weekend to drink TONS of booze and hit the beach. |

Very sad day.
Plans for the weekend, no football tomorrow. Matches got cancelled as it has been raining like all week, good for ground water level though as it's still much too low and another dry summer would cause real problems again.
Meeting friends on Sunday, guys (and families) I studied with at the university.
First F1 race of the season on Sunday, Australian GP. |

Great.
As I write this there's a man with a gun, and a bomb at the century city mall just a mile from me and the entire area has been evacuated.

... I've just found out that the website the Suzano shooters used to devise their plan was made by a former student of the course I teach [link in Portuguese]. He didn't last a single semester because he threatened a colleague of mine after a couple of weeks, so I never actually taught him, but this is the guy whose mass shooting plans were foiled. It just happened that one of his "disciples" managed to carry it through :(

I fear this idiot has upped the ante with the livestream aspect of things. He complains in his manifesto about White ppl not having kids yet somehow thinks shooting innocent Muslims will reverse the trend.
p.s. Sorry for the past 45 mins of downtime - had to do a reboot and things went wonky for a bit whilst I battled the ty VPN/java interface to hit up the server console to fix it. |

The more you think about the things he said, the less it makes sense. An Aussie in New Zealand called Muslims "invaders". A foreigner in a country that has just recently been settled by Europeans. In Oceania.
I hope he gets to be judged by an all-Maori court. |
