I'm aware I'm at risk of sounding like a contrarian teenager by always panning these films, but reading around online it seems that I'm not alone on this one. The audience reaction has been far more negative than the critical reaction.
Anyway, there have been science fiction films in the fairly recent past I've enjoyed: Dredd, Rogue One, Ex Machina, Moon, District 9 etc. |
Yeah Moon was awesome... stumbled upon it quite blindly actually and glad I did. I'm a big Sam Rockwell fan. In terms of recent sci-fi flicks, I also enjoyed Upgrade. |

Moon directed and based on a story by Bowie's son. |

My brother keeps hyping Upgrade to me. Every time I see him we agree to watch it, and then end up getting too drunk to do it. He's one of the only people who I completely trust when it comes to his taste in films though, so I have high hopes. |

| Can anyone recommend me some good indie Sci Fi films, there is an endless void of movies out there, don't know which are good... |

I thought this was pretty good - loved the premise and most of the execution of it.
Equilibrum (2002)
Recommend you watch it without seeing the trailer, as it has spoilers. |

I'll check that one out Del, thanks.
I saw this from when I use to browse alot of stuff on xbox when there was not too much. The thing that intrigues me was that it was based on true events.

| I watched Godzilla II: King of the Monsters, many won't like it, but I had a good time :D |

Wow, currently at 83% to 43% over on RottenTomatoes. That's the type critical gap usually associated with meathead blockbusters, which, incidentally, is also currently in theaters:

| Seriously, it's getting slated. One of those where the public feels collectively betrayed by the critics. It does look very pretty, though, I'll give it that. If you want to see it, my recommendation would be to smoke a jazz cigarette before going in and stick your spaciest prog mix in the headphones so you don't have to hear any of Brad Pitt's clanging narration. |

interested to read your opinion, but wasn't a fan. definitely behind all the films you referenced. |

Count me in with the 'Moon' lovers. Great film. Jones' follow-up, 'Source Code,' was enjoyable, but not anywhere near the same level. Apparently his latest film was garbage, though, which is a shame.
I still need to see 'Ex Machina' :wtf:
I have to say, Swamper, that 'Equilibrium' is absolutely one of the worst films I have ever seen in my life. I will never understand how it has such a big fan base. |

Finally seen it: I agree with you. The concept was just a bit too clichéd to have much impact, and some of the plotting was just silly. My brother also apparently quite liked Ad Astra, so maybe he's just losing his touch. |
