There was a front page story about this in Time magazine.

Ive read the specs on it. Impressive...they went into detail about motion mechanics to motor build. They didnt mention anything about durability tho...say if you were to crash into something?(u know..after some drinking at a club haha). And is it all climate...like would it work as good in the snow...would the motor stall in cold climates? And also, they didnt mention the battery life..how long that would be. As you know...other rechargeable batteries like Nickel Cadmium has somewhat of a lousy battery life. And its often recommeded that you use a batter ill all its potential is lost before recharging, so would there be a disclaimer for this? that would be pretty ty eh...ur zipping thru downtown toronto..on ur last bar of battery left and it stops on you lol.
It is geniusly designed and engineering, kudos to them...its certainly a step in the right direction. But its almost 5 grand...I can get a used car with heating and the assurance that a normal automobile offers me. If I'm gonna walk thru grass..I'll use my feet thanks :tongue2
All in all, I think this is a toy for the rich folks

well, it's the first batch, that's why it's so expensive... If it goes big, I think that within 5-6 years thing thing will cost no more than a grand.

lol yea
How about I buy a motorized wheel chair
those things have seats!
StereoPrincess
I would only buy it had a seat and dome covering or something to keep the cold out. There is no way that would work in Timmins when it gets like -40 degrees C.

For a grand I can still buy a decent used car with air conditioning, heating and the assurance that the car gives you, as King Mack mentioned...

As far as I understand Segway is good for driving downtown or some like that... I wanna see how you will drive your car in downtown Toronto or downtown New York.

i think it can go 15 mph max or something like that. it is basically a big toy. i have been involved in Dean Kamen's (the inventor) FIRST program for years and for the last 2 years he hasn't made a speech without riding in on the segway.

i wouldn't pay for it but apparently ppl having been asking to buy it for quite a while before he was ready to market it. it is really cool - i don't think it has a motor but it works on gyro sensors.

It looks totally rediculous.. have you seen those business people on scooters? It's hillarious. I can understand a kid or some funky people, but not suits!

It's all about perception. Have you been to Holland? I've seen people in business suits riding bicycles! In fact, bicycle is the most common mean of transportation in Amsterdam. It looked strange to me, but it's normal in Netherlands.

I think thi thing is cool if you are going downtown. Ok. but around the house? to the store? Whatever happened to the old tradtitional Bicycle? Are ppl nowadays too lazy to use their own human strength? Instead the prefer to be drifted off by a 2 wheeled machine. Like I said. for downtown it is great but eveything else?? C'maaaaan. Don't be lazy and let it replace "your feet". You have to remember that there is people who have had their legs amputaded and ppl that are parapeligic who would kill to be able to walk again. Seriously. Don;t take your legs for granted. To me, more or less, it seems like a device for ppl who are too lazy to walk 3km or less.
