Remembering: 1999

I was just digging through some old CD's from when I had to free up room on an old computer, thus forcing me to burn all my mp3's...

All I can say is 1999 was the year for Trance. For all you newbies who missed it you can still re-live it by downloading the sets.

Noone can ever top Paul Oakenfold when he was at his peak. Listen to any of his essential mix world tours. Any of them. Space in Ibiza, Havana, Miami, Liverpool is amazing!!!
Then listen to his Resident : 2 years at Cream CD set. SO damn good.

Youll notice that a lot of the songs Oakie plays in 98/99 are brought back by Tiesto in 2000/01. And there are a ton.
That is why Tiesto is # 2 on my list of all time. I just listened to Hyperstate 99, Innercity 99, and of course Energy 2000. These sets from 99 are the best music ever played in the history of mankind.

I hope you agree, but if not, go take a listen and see for yourself. All Pure Trance, Real Trance, Original Trance, Amazing Trance.

Thats how it was , and thats how it should still be!

That's the only point that I have to disagree with... it was great back then, but now those tunes just don't cut it anymore, the scene and the music has evolved into something different, and we should move ahead with it too! Don't wanna get stuck in the past for too long...

i gotta agree with both of you guys .. 99 was definately the golden year for trance and everything culminated up to the peak at the end of 99 and on through 2000 with Tiesto's groundbreaking sounds ..

but yes at the same time nothing lasts forever.. we all have to move on. the music that has evolved today probably won't be around in the next couple of years either but instead ever changing into something new ..

99 does bring back memories tho and a shed of tears .. aww.. :sadgreen:

Oakies Essential Mixes are and forever will be some of the best sets of all time.

China and Havana were always my two favs.

I remember 'getting' electronic music about half way through the first Oakenfold Best of Cream cd. The mixing, the track selection, it all came together for me right there. Which is still much later in the game than most of you guys. Good thread.
jdat
yes these were the days

but I liked the old school trance as well :p

97 rocks me
King_Mack
Anyone know where I can acquire Oakenfold's premium sets you guys are talking about??

Hmm, i remember going to to see PvD in Montreal and not knowing who he was!
Oh, yeah the "Angel" song guy. Cool.

UWO Tranceaddict is right IMO as well, I feel all the Trance now a days sounds the same. Binary Finary, Cafe Del Mar (original), Airwave, were all classics that I can still put on today. Oaky's Live from Space @ Ibiza :eyes:
The year of trance for me as well.......
TheDemon
1999 had some good Techno and Rave. Some of which can never be touched again.
