John Digweed @ Koolhaus Friday, November 29th/2002 Review
Many tranceaddicts made a bad decision on friday night and decided to go see Talla 2XLC. It was their loss not mine. Anyway, things got going around 10:30pm with Luke Fair playing an amazing bangin opening 90 mins. Then the only disappointment of the night happened, John Debo showed up and played a boring as hell 90 mins. 15 minutes before the end of his set, he got a loud cheer, he thought it was for him but it was'nt. It was John Digweed's appearance for the sellout crowd of 1500. Most people think all John Digweed plays is deep dark progressive house all the time but as the same with Sander Kleinenberg's visit earlier this year, he stayed away from the stuff that he was known for. John Digweed played a 4 hr set with included some bangin progressive, some ambiant sounding stuff, house and some really dirty tech house. The crowd was up for it and so was diggers. About 2 hrs into the set, I decided to go to the front of the stage and watch diggers for a bit. I noticed some interesting things, he was wearing plain cheap adidas shoes. I also believe he is left handed because his wallet is in his left pocket. Also John had a custom made earplug in his right ear (could be because of his illness earlier this month, also it could be the earplugs that mixmag was talking about, a year and a half ago. His record box has many different types of records, I saw a few black hole labels in his box and some other labels that you would probably not associate with John Digweed. I also noticed that John Digweed is in a zone when he deejays and rarely smiles or looks up from the decks because he is really concentrating on what he does. So the night was a 10/10, so glad I went to see John Digweed rather than TALLA 2xlc |

Old track selection? No wonder... why do you think I choose to go see Diggers?!
By the way, Digweed was en great! Even though it's not exactly what I would've liked hearing, but hey, he surpased all my expectations, and just blew the crowd away! God damn! |

First of all, sad to say that torontotrance beat me to posing about digweed. However, the night was soooo awesome! Debo bored everyone, leaving digweed to make it up to us. And he did! Damn his 3.5 hr set never dissapointed at any point. Buildups were smooth and effortless, and when he dropped the beat, it was DIRTY! I wasn't feeling very good before Digweed, but his set rose my spirits to a new level. Kept me on the dance floor all night! I even jumped up on stage (around 445-500am) looked the man in the eyes, then pumped up the crowd. On that note, the crowd was AMAZING, nothing less of full support for diggers! On the whole, I was kinda sad that he had no encore, and that he wouldn't shake my hand at the end :conf: . Well what can I say? Digweed played to his fullest and rocked the whole nite long.... sorry for everyone who went to Talla 2XCL.
Verdict: 10/10 DEFINATELY

This night could not have been better. Got to take my brother up to Toronto for his first nightclubing experience. He is now passed out on the couch back in buffalo, with a smile from ear to ear.
Got there early for once....Luke...you rule man. I got the bedrock newsletter the other day and saw that you are in the main room for 3 events. Congratulations, I am so jealous. I saw you talking to diggers before he went on....I was just dreaming about what it would be like to be in your shoes. Have a good ride, good luck.
Diggers rocked the house! Amazing beats that are still stuck in my head now. Met so many cool people which made the night even better. Props to Chris with Global Underground shirt......sweeeeeet!
Last night we saw a new beginning....of amazing music. I can't wait to see what there is to come.
Good job debo.......Digweed, I love thee.
Peace,
Steve |

| Notice that debo stood behind diggers all thru his set. I think debo was taking notes.....he should have. On my way out, I ran into Luke Fair...who stated he had producing records for bedrock and yooshi and is only 24 and a toronto boy. |
