| it depends on what you need it for, if you have a MD player on your home hifi then id defo say go with the MD walkman, if you dont then consider either a MD or mp3 walkman, these days the MD walkmans can also connect to a pc via USB so u can download music just like a mp3 walkman, personally id go for a MD walkman. |

MD all the way.
I dont know what kind of deck you have that makes you think ATRAC is , my sony deck utilizes ATRAC-4 and it sounds CLEAN as a bell.
I love minidiscs. I'll take them over MP3, CD, or tape ANYDAY
-- nothin beats wax though :P -- |

a) MP3 is a file format only. MD's is an integrated compression/media technology
b) MD's can be used in many different piece of audio hardware, including pitch-controlled DJ-style decks (see the denon M2000R and M2300R)
c) MD's dont require a stinkin computer!!! <~ main reason
d) MP3's are lower quality than MiniDisc, unless sampled at a very high bitrate.
e) MD Media is less prone to damage than CD media
The investment to add Minidisc recording to a DJ booth is minimal. MP3 technology requires: A computer and assocated junk (keyboard/mouse/monitor), recording software, and a quality soundcard if you want good recording quality. And after all that investment, you still have a clunky computer to deal with. Plus, a mindisc deck fits much nicer in a ATA case and requires less setup time at a show :D
One thing I really like about my MD deck, is as I record a set, I can touch one button on the deck as i bring in the next track and set the track markers as I go.
MP3's are not ruled out - but I consider MP3 to be a distribution format, and nothing more.
MP3s are great in some environments - but not pro audio. |

| I say you should go for one of those portable MP3 CD Players, There the most convenient, You burn a 700mb CD-R with tons and tons of mp3s and then play it on your portable MP3 CD Player as if they were audio CDs, I have one of them and it works great. :) |
