Second and most important- the quality sounds just the same!

So why don't people start using this format more? are there any known downsides to it?

that's what they said about .wma some time ago, and how many of you use .wma instead of .mp3? i don't, and i won't.

The OGG format is indeed capable of more things than mp3 and at lower size.

That about sums it up; both ogg and wma have been around for a while now, and both offer better compression (whatever) than mp3, but nobody walks around saying, "yeah, I have that song on my wma or ogg list at home". Mp3 here to stay, much to the annoyance of the RIAA :p

Ogg is alright, but until it gets more widespread usage it's pretty worthless...

the good thing about mp3 is that there are soo many mp3 players out there..i mean portable and car mp3 player...if the start releasing ogg capable players...then its a diff story...but i like mp3..so.

ogg is growing in popularity, but it doesnt offer much better sound quality than a correctly ripped mp3: IE: LAME codec 3.92, used with EAC (www.exactaudiocopy.de), on alt preset standard...VBR.....
if you use that, your mp3's are pretty much identical to the original CD.....extremely good quality (to the human ear anyhow)

you know i just DL the encoder and i made some test...OGG sounds better then mp3..i encoded a wav to 128 ogg file and encoded a 256 mp3 and the ogg sounded a little better...closer to the wav format......but i aint encoder all my to ogg...thinking about encoding live sets to ogg....heres the big + on .ogg..

i encode a song......
.wav file = 44.9 megs
.mp3 @ 256 = 08.1 megs
.ogg @ 128 = 03.8 megs

Doesn't anyone remember mp4? It was just like ogg but died out a lot quicker. I had a couple of trance tacks on the format. Thought it was going to take over mp3.
