Basic Help For Beginner DJs (pg. 3)

I love music, end of story. But a poor mo-fo like myself cant afford all the 'top notch' equip, does anyone have a good place to go shopping that isnt suicide in the wallet? Im lookin to spend around $1000(US), less would be nice too. :D
And shopping, I mean all equipment, turntables, mixers, amps, cases - the works. And about buying vinyl, once I have all the equipment, vinyl shouldnt be a problem, but I would like a site that has good prices on vinyl too.:p
This isnt a fad, its an obsession - I have learned this now. |

I have an old early 90s sony turtable that I can listen to my vinyls on, however I'm scared that the needle is too old and will damage my records. One Dj on here uses an old 80s turntable, and he's playing in the loveparade; I guess he changes the needle on it. :conf: Someone above said that you have to change your needles every 6 months with frequent use. This turntable hasn't been used much, but it is old. The needle has never been changed I don't think. I might just buy 1 technics turntable to listen to my records for now. All my friends who Dj have technics, and I don't want to look silly if I start to DJ. :stongue:
I have a question about these technics tables though. Are they all the same feature wise? The only difference is aesthetics when it comes to different model numbers right??

Oh hey, another question:
Can I buy any cartidge/needle for the old sony turntable?? I'm not really sure, and I don't want to break the thing because I don't know what the I'm doing.

p.s. I've listened to vinyl vs. cd, and to my ear the vinyl sounds better/more crisp. It could be my imagination though. |

I advise against this. If you start buying vinyl now, you will get addicted (everyone does), and then you won't have money to buy turntables.
IMO, I would honestly try getting the equipment first. The thrill of getting vinyl is a lot more intense when you actually have turntables to play it on. :D
It might be harder to do (more tempting to get vinyl now, and cheaper), but in the long run it is worth it. Plus, if you just buy vinyl, you'll feel bummed out because you can't actually play it, which is the entire point of getting vinyl in the first place. :toothless
Think of it this way... would you buy gas before buying a car? :)

Wow, that made so much sense it made me laugh, such a good analogy :stongue:
I have another question, Im currently trying to learn to mix on the computer, using a basic program called MixMeister3. Ive made a few mixes, kinda like demos for myself and friends to listen to. They said its good, but to my ear is still hear imperfections-maybe because I know whats where. But the question is, how do you know what songs to mix with that, can any song be mix with any other songs, and how do you know when to start dubbing in? :conf:
Trust me, this is only the beginning of questions :D
My lifes goal isnt to be a DJ, but I love music to the point where I dedicate every ounce of time that I have free to download, listen and mix with whatever resources I have for now. |

Ok guys, I know I out-did myself, but these are the things I plan on buying by the end of the year:
2 Numark TT-200 Turntables or TTX-1 Turntables
Pioneer DJM-500 Mixer
JBL N-26 6" 2-Way Speaker 125W Pair
American DJ PSX Scratchable CD Player or Numark CDN90 Dual CD player
Pioneer HDJ-1000 High-End Pro. Heaphones :crazy:
Roland MC-909 Sampling Groovebox (Maybe in a year or so AFTER I have bought all of the other equipment) :eek:
Ok, I know this is WAYYY more than I want to spend, but Im starting to save up now. I have a few hundred in the bank, and over the summer intent to atleast get the 2 turntables. My b-day is in December, so intend to do some shopping than as well, get the mixer, if I dont already have it. My goal is simply to buy quality stuff that will last years because I dont intend on going out and buying new stuff after a year.
When it comes to building a place to put it, my dad owns a cabinet making company. Ill take time out on the weekends and go to his shop and build one for myself. :D :D :D
Anyone have any comments on the stuff I want to buy, maybe you guys can give me alittle advice on these things. :conf:

i dont know anything about needles...so a needle degrades over time? and can ruin a record? what more do i need to know about them...

After reading up and using it a bit I was pretty amazed what you could do with this program.. I wondered what you guys thought about it and if there is maybe a better sound program I should use... |

hey guys i'm gonna start learning how to dj. Most likely just for myself or as you say "bedroom dj." i'm wondering what kind of mixer to get? so far i've read that i need either a 2 or 3 channel mixer, 3 band eq, and headphone cue. now thats all fine and dandy, but what are some good quality mixers at a good price? i'm not sure about price range probably under $200. i don't see the point in getting a really high quality mixer when i'm learning, but i dunno...
so far i've searched a little and the mixers recommended seem to be for people that already have experience and are just looking to upgrade.
so, suggestions are highly recommended.

| Start collecting vinyl now, you just have to pace ypurself. This is what i did and I have a good 25 tracks (over three months)to practice mixing when i finally got my tables. :) |
