| There isn't an increase in cases, there's an increase in the amount of them that are being brought to the public's attention. At least in the US that's the case. In the US most crime rates are actually down. But if you pay attention to the mass media, it kinda goes through phases. For a while, it was all about terrorism, then it was all about the economin "crisis" and the crash of big businesses and such, and right now the focus is on all of those crimes and also on this "war on Iraq" sh*t that really IS pointless to go on and on about. They've got to get the public interested for as long as possible but change the focus of the mass media once in a while to make sure the public keeps coming back |

There are a few places that these things are actually on the rise: Pakistan for instance. But in the vast majority of the civilized world, they have declined steadily for generations. |
