as racist as Americans?

There is a whole lot of racism towards asians from white people in America. For example, Yao Ming was playing against the Miami Heat a basketball team here, and they decided to give out, guess what. Fortune cookies.
Yao Ming commented that he was confused because there were no fortune cookies in China. How can a group of people make such a decision and not even feel like there's something wrong?
There's a whole lot of racism here and most of it is open, I doubt there could be more racism anywhere else in the world.
On a different forum someone actually tried to argue that the word yank was equally insulting as gook and chink?
in the end, blame mtv |

Here in England there are a few racists, who might attack someone or something just because they are a different colour.
Mostly its just people doing little things, like locking car doors if a black or asian person walks by, or being nervous walking past them at night.
Another stupid thing I saw, in my cousins class photograph they have put all the asian people wearing head coverings symetricly. If you imagine that they have one 4 people in from the left, and one 4 people in from the right. then 8 people in on the row below. |

I don't think that's racism, just ignorance.
And why isn't "Yank" equally insulting as "gook" or "chink"? I'm not saying any are appropriate, but they're one and the same; slang terms for race. |

First of all I'm Chinese but yet I can't fully agree with what you are trying to say. I'm sure racism exists everywhere but in this I case I think people are looking way too much into this and analyzing things to death.
It's a good gesture when they decided to pass out fortune cookies. They probably don't realize that there's no fortune cookies in China but that can't be labeled as racism. I'm not saying that racism don't exist but people are being way too sensitive and trying too hard to appear polically correct not to offend anyone. People just need to relax a little and enjoy the cookies dammit (I know I would :p ).
I'm not american either but I'm sick of all this american bashing that is so prevalent on this board. They seem to get a lot of slack on just about everything these days. |

| fortune cookies, racist... come on. Do a little research before you claim fortune cookies are racist. I've gone to Chinese restaurants in the US, where most of the people who work there are Chinese, & they give out fortune cookies. I dont know who started the fortune cookies thing, but I definitely dont see it as a racist. |
