I personally Atend the New Toronto Academy of Martial Arts. It is located on Islington and Lakeshore (all the way south at the end of Islington. Great Gym (at least for what they are charging me) and a large Dojo. Goju Jitsu Ryy is taught there. Itis a combination of GOJU Karate and Jiu Jitsu. I highly reccomend it.

Any TAs here practice any forms of martial arts? Or any who is contemplating to get into it - tell how serious you are. I like to know. I may have an idea :)

I have trained in gung-fu for 6 years @ www.chungwahkungfu.com

Unfortunately, there are many many many phony schools out there, with no real credibility, and you can be easily fooled into joining a school that teaches you things the "master" learned from a magazine.

My sifu is 31st generation Shaolin, if you go to China, you can trace the lineage of his teachers, and the teachers before him, all credible masters, one thing you should be careful of when joining a new school. Its too easy to read a book, and open a school and exploit the market. He does seminars world wide, and has won numerous awards for charitable work for the community.

What we learn is a complete system, which touches all areas of martial arts, including internal training and hard chi-kung (iron palm, iron head etc.) as well as doing lion dances and stuff around the city. I haven't been training for a long time due to university, But I was planning on coming back for Chinese new years so I can lend a hand at the up coming demos.

So, my advice is to look around the city, and try different schools, and find what is right for you.

this is one of my favourite pictures cuz I'm in it :) Its at a demo in Sudbury a few years ago. Thats me holding a spear for my Sifu as he demonstrates Iron Throat (the tip is placed on his neck, and the spear is bent. Its a real spear trust me). The cinder block is placed on his back and smashed with a sledge hammer.

Beware of this. Its a marketing scam. People are exploiting bruce lee's name. If you find a "jeet kune do" school, its most likely BS.

1.) Jeet Kune Do, was a name Bruce Lee gave to his style of martial arts, but really, it wasn't a style at all, and wasn't a complete system.

2.) There are no qualified instructors of "Jeet Kune Do" Many just read a few Bruce Lee books and ride on his name. In the real standardized martial arts world, its an easy way to spot a fake.

I guarantee if you trace the lineage of teachers, it won't go back to Bruce. :P

that is true my friend. A Jett Kune do Instructor MUST have a trained/be certified black belt instructor of the Jeet Kune Do Gung fu institute in Cali. Dan Insonato (highest ranked black belt in Jeet Kune do from Burce Lee Himself). Goodluck finding one In Canada.

Does any TAs here want to start a network where each will help fianacially contribute or other means of resources such as scanning, digital conversion to get access to the abundant martial arts videos out there? Such videos and texts as chin-na/Taiji Chen and ninjutsu. Some styles are so rare that it's hard to find dojos that teaches it, that's why one must access the videos. So I'm just wondering if any TTAs here also a aficionado in martial arts, maybe we can pull together for something greater. This is the age of information, I definitely want to take advantage it. Everyone will contribute and all will get their fair share :)
