Ok so why do some people call themselves djs when in reality they cant mix? Or they dont even know what to mix?
I know this guy who has a set of tables but doesnt know how to mix or what..I make him cds or give him some help..But he gets the gigs with the money! So why do people do that? |

yeah, i hate that to. especially when they have some goofy name, like DJw1ck3dR4Ver or something. and when you ask them what equipment they have they shrug.
i've been DJing for 2 years, on computer, and then i bought my tables this summer, and i still don't consider myself a "DJ", rather, i consider myself, "someone who DJs" |

| whether you can mix two records together or not has nothing to do with the label 'DJ' |

This person I know at the UW, he calls himself "DJ AMELIO" which is just horrible DJ name, and he can't even beat match.....Anyway, I'm gonna jump him after school tomorrow ;) i will keep ya posted.

You will only be a DJ not because you will spin in front of a crowd.. you will know when you're a DJ when you can't get that goofy smile of your face when the last record of the set ends turning, and you hear the crowd chanting... 1 MORE 1 MORE 1 MORE!!!

| I suppose some people like to use the DJ 'title' to give their personal status a boost. I think we need a replacement term for 'DJ' anyway, I think 'disc jockey' is a bit e. |

you read my mind :stongue:
peopel should be able to tell the difference between be able to DJ, and being a DJ.
you are only "a DJ" if you get paid to do it as its your job, but many many people "can DJ" |

This is funny , I have a friend (whose name is CJ) but he picked up a set of techs over the summer (mark alemura's) and he tries and tries. Alot of people are like wow, you are a Dj? He looks and them and proudly says, NO, i am a freak with two turntables... that is it.
I came up with my Name over time, DCS for various reasons, but it fits me well and it rolls off the MC's tongue easily when ever i DJ now. |

| So does that mean you consider it wrong for radio DJ's to call themselves DJ's? My super simplified definition of a dj is to be one that plays music for a crowd. I don't think mixing is a ultimate prerequisite for being a DJ. |

| I call myself DJ Spyke because if you just say "Spyke" people wonder what you do. The DJ defines it. However, I in NO WAY consider myself to be a true DJ! I can beat match and I can spin, yet I do not own decks. I spin on my computer and on my friend's technics. I'm iight, but have a looooooooooooong way to go till I put "DJ Spyke" on any flyers! |
