| This should be the last thread i post but since starting to dj now, I'm getting more and more into progressive. Its a great sound to mix in with techno and even in some of my uplifting sets. As far as live sounds go i really like progressive, and the amount of originality in songs is quite high. I'm not totally changed over but Im starting to understand why so many like it. I still think John Digweed is boring but I've even gone so as to far purchase some Bedrock recs, like "Lovely Day". So i in short apologize to all prog heads for bashing what i did not know, especially bedrock and amit, and wonder how did u get into prog? |

Right on man. People don't realize prog and trance are not just related, but they are brother and sister. Sasha and digweed cross over from prog to trance in many, many sets.
Get the 2 CD of digweed and sasha Live at INdependence in Simmons. Great stuff.
Oh and Digweed Live @ Immense Velocity |

that's called evolution of your music taste, everyone goes through it, but basically when one gets into trance he will most probably end up liking prog :)
that happened to me aswell, 2-3 months ago If you told me I would like prog as much as do now I would probs think you are  |

Same here. The tune that did it for me was James Holden - Nothing. |

Welcome to the club, it's great to have another member :)
I had been a Sasha fan for a little while thanks to GU013 but that really had more of a trancy sound to it. For me it really started in August when I saw Sander Kleinenberg live. He blew me away. I was a fan of his Essential Mix (not the album) up to then because of it's 'weird' and different sound. That began the 'evolution' if you will of my tastes towards the progressive sound. |

| haha good for you. most of the people who say prog sucks dont know a thing about it, and only heard like 3 tracks. :) the more you listen to it the more you begin to understand it. :D |

| Tis true. Fate has it that after listening to trance for a certain amount of time you'll start to drift into the direction of progressive. Early early 2002 I thought James Holden was crap and Solstice was such a boring tune, but later that year I got into it and now of course Holden rules :) |

A good set IMO always starts with prog because it sets the mood and takes you on a journey, then a banging uplifting trancer at the end linked with other trance and prog tunes makes for a good set.
Look at Danny Tenaglia's Global Underground comp as well as Nick Warren and you see they throw tracks like Yves Deruyter - Feel Free and Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar into their prog house sets. |

Agreed, however for me it depends how deeply progressive it is, or rather how much melody it has... if I go to a dance party, I go to dance and have fun... more so than appreciate the slower melody as a set builds.
I went to Sasha recently and was disappointed with the first hour of his set - too slow to dance to (for me), and thus I just couldn't get into the whole flow of the set.
I love some prog and melody, but it has to be mixed in with some banging trance and build it from there...
IMO *all* good trance has melody... you just have to find it. Some are better than others, but I find my favourite trance has a distinctive melody thru it, like epic, uplifting trance. Can't be beat.
That and hard, banging trance. :D |
