How to organize a rave

| Im thinking about organizing a small party in cobourg (pop 15,000). There have been a total of two raves in our town in the past 3 years. So i have a venue, its a small unit of a building that can hold about 50 people. i need ideas, suggestions, i dont really know what the law says about holding parties. anybody who's done this before, post.thx |

First of all don't call it a rave. It's a gathering.
You first of all need money. Figure that out first, once that is established get a crew together, cuz you're gonna need one.
Get..
(1) Venue
(2) Sound System
(3) DJ's
(4) Flyers
(5) Water
(6) Security
(7) Friends to help out
Be more specific in your questions. As far as paper work goes, find out what the Cobourg municipal laws are. Find those old promoters who put on the old parties. I mean I realize Cobourg is the metropolitan center of the world, but it may have some by-laws you have to work around. (ie: no excess sound pass a certain hours). If you can't find those old promoters treck down to your local city hall. That should be good for now, if you want PM me. peace |

| i got a venue, im gonna try to keep it low cost, my buddy owns the venue, so that is covered. i cant get ahold of a decent system. i dont know if i am gonna hire any Dj's. we have some peeps that can spin, a few people that can do live sets on their computer. i might do a set on my computer with traktor. any idea how much Dj's cost, not tiesto, but some good dj's out of toronto. |

lol, i know i'd spin for free + transportation costs, just for the experience. :P

I would also love to rock cobourg, there are so many TA dj's who are more than willing to help you and dj this for free mate. |

| cobourg is an hour east of toronto. thx for the support i would definetly pay gas money for anyone that would spin. since cobourg doesnt have a strong trance community, or for that matter, electronic music community, this would not be a huge party. probably around 50 people. any ideas for flyers? what to promote the party as? and how to avoid legal hassle? i read somewhere that if you dont sell tickets and you dont provide the venue, it cant be considered a public party and is therefore a private party, thus avoiding many legal complications. |

Suggestion
To have a successful party, you need at least 2 rooms and 2 types of muzuk. This way ya know the turn out will be solid and if ya geedy for cash ... ramm that party utnil the fire dept of your town shuts you down :O <--- no need to be greedy though.
Main Room : Trance & Techno
2nd Room: Jungle/Dnb (W/MCs)or Breaks
*Why do I suggest Jungle/Dnb or Breaks ??? Trust me .. the turn out are pretty crazy at recent parties. Example Destiny's NYE MegaCity event.
To make sure everyhing goes well, make the party a 19+ event, all age events are targets for the local police.
If you need anymore DJs .. just let us know, I also might get some ppl for you. Ranging from progressive,techno,trance,house and Jungle/DnB.

Anyhow getting serious. Sounds like a great Idea. Ask DJ Eso and Mecha, I think they would be interested. But I like your idea. You got my support :D.
BTW, can I mix a RAVE CCd and have it play at the end of the show just so I can get some decent flashbacks from 95???:tongue3 |

| Well, this isnt gonna be a party like destiny. i think its gonna be a small one room party. i have to start small before i can throw big parties, which is my goal for the future. |
