Hey!

I'v bought the amd xp 2600 cpu with my new pc a couple of weeks ago, and i really like to overclock it.

My prior pc had a amd 1 ghz thunderbird which i could overclock easily

I checked out several sites with oc info, but it was a jungle out there!! Can anyone bring me some info?

All I know is that It's a xp2600, 333mhz fsb, external cpu set @ 166mhz, clockspeed=2.08Ghz, multiplier set to standard (can't access it)

thanks in advance

Well i have an MSI KT3 Ultra ARU mobo and i simply go into the BIOS and change the FSB step by step :) Good :)

get a mobo that can unlock your chip and let u adjust the fsb, voltage, multiplier. I recommend the epox 8rda+ or asus a7n8x

i have that one..

so ur saying i can overclock my cpu just tweaking my bios? great, buti haven't found my way into the multiplier yet...

i got my athlon xp 1.47 G 1700+ at 1.9G at 11X181 at 1.725 voltages. it is the newest stepping , the tbird b.

uh...overcloking athlons...watch it, better get some hardcore cooling, athlons burn like crazy

or just be happy that u have a decent cpu and us 1ghz nuts are jealous of u :p

You've actually got a good chip as luck would have it. It's one of the first Thoroughbred B steppings which happens to overclock very well indeed.

To answer some questions,

You'll need fast good quality ram for one. If you do have an Nforce 2 based board like i think you do then just go into the bios and adjust the multiplier down and up the fsb up bit. I know a lot of nforce2 boards stable at 200 FSB(400 DDR effective)

Get some solid cooling for it too though the tbred b's are cooler then the A's.

Try to get the memory timings down to 2-2-6 or so as this increases performance a lot. However the higher you oc your memory the less stable it will be at this setting.

You may have to up the Vcore on the cpu to get it stable at higher speeds. Also increasing the Voltage to the memory will make it more stable at higher speeds too though you then have to be careful as increased voltages=increased stabilty=increased heat too

LOL, why would u wanna overclock it???

Your processor speed will not be used to its optimum for a while yet, they cant bring out many games that will use it all anyways

When you do overclock it, it wont make a noticeable difference to the speed applications and other stuff take to open and run.

Overclocking means you loose your warranty, so if u do it up, yr screwed

Overclocking uses up more power, and makes the processor run hotter.

The point im getting at is that old cpu's had more to gain by overclocking, but modern cpus are run at the optimal safe speed.

I say just be happy with wot u got mate

From experience tampering only ends up messin stuff up in the long run.

:D
sothis
i just dont understand why people who buy really excessive computer parts, need to make it even MORE excessive by overclocking.

its a bizarre form of the typical male dick-measuring contest.

size doesn't really matter ;)
