I started liking trance when I went to Germany for my 16th birthday (1995). I went out to the clubs and they were playing la bouche and nightcrawlers, too (wow, matt, you brought back the memories). The music was awesome and I was blown away. I was so surprised that even the RADIO was playing the music I heard in the CLUB. lol, made no sense to me.

Anyway, I came back to USA and no one even knew these songs yet. Few months later they came out and here we are today. However, I do admit to having a few insane hip-hop years. But now..I found my place.

I would say my journey began around 16-17ish when the whole electronic genre started getting to my liking,... started with Prodigy and ORB,..Daft Punk was pretty cool then,... but only progressed very very slowly, after i bought Tranceport did it really take off, circa~age 19,.. in Oct 01, i was never into clubs but on a decision of a flip of a coin, i decided to go to PvD,.. wow, that was a great decision, i guess it was fate,... tails never fails.. :eyespop:

hehe, i remember, my brother got his Abitur (german a-levels) that year.. he went out to the Dorian Gray -only time he went there, ever- and my mom asked him the next day "what did they play?"

"Nightcrawlers" :D

well i cant remember really when i started to listen to electronic dance music. but my taste was always evolving into edm. the sound was always soo fresh to my ears. i always enjoyed listening to different styles of music :)

i remember games like Streets of Rage. the music was heavly influnced by EDM. the whole cd rocked and soo much energy. also mortal combat :) i am sure it influnced many of you guys :)

i remember the first couple of house tracks in the early 90's. you cna prob see all of them on commericals like dance mix usa... but songs like NighCrawler- Push on the Feeling omg just ROCKED. that song came out like in 95 and i always in love with it.

i also remember some indian remix's where ahead of there time. like extra hot volumes. the series was made in the UK and i would special order there tapes:) from volumes 1-10 they had the best indian dance remixes/orginal production. i remember couple of the tracks with some nice techy tribal feel which were looped with the dhol (indian instruments) beats.

i used to listen to 92.3 they had some balitmore house. it's really awesome cause its like hip hop mixed into house music. its pretty unquie. i also used to listen to z104 and they woudl play some cheesy trance/house tunes.

back in high school...i didnt really understand the music until napster. i asked my cousin whos the best techno dj...and he would reply Paul Oakenfold.

billu and i back in high school...bought many GU and Trance Cds...but it wasnt until we found tranceaddict.com. both of us just shoaked up information as much as we could and finally mastered trance music :)

as far as i can remember...the first time listening to electronic dance music was back when i was 8 years old. but i didnt konw what it was called or anything. i just loved it because it took me through a journey :)

Yo amit...well said. I know exactly what you mean.
I started out as a loser that listened to hiphop in the mid 90's and whatever top 40 rock that was out. Then in the summer of 99, i was on a British Airways flight to India. One of the inflight radio stations seemed to be a dance channel and they were playing alot of Oakenfolds stuff that was out. I became instantly hooked. I cam home and started downloading every Oakie EM i could find. Then i found TA. Started listening to more and more electronic DJs and artists. I'm still broadening my tastes....
EnigmaT
Guess who was the first Electronic Group I got into was...

Enigma :D

That's the origin of the name I use all over. I was crazy about ambient music right around the time there second CD came out. I liked the meaning of the word and the special influence it had on me in the electronic music scene. Never thought I would take the name this far though.

I think Brainbug is the first real trance group I ever got into. Before that I was into Guns & Roses & Bon Jovi & of course Z100 radio commercial radio hits. I had a time where I was into movie scores after that. Going back 8 years ago I remember recording Ice Ice Baby off MTV on a cassette player and listening to it while delivering Pennysavers on my bicycle. :wtf:

Before getting my CD burner I would record Johnny Vicious off KTU on Saturday nights and make up my own names for the songs. I would fight with John in the car when I wanted to play my tape and he had some new Hip Hop/R&B CD. I then started buying the Euphoria Label CDs and then napster came along with CD burners and other music sharing sites. I went from 20 MTV cassette recorded pop songs to over 7,000 CD burned electronic songs.

If you want to say video games influenced me, between the ages of 16 and 20 I think I was buying an average of 2 games a month. I remember getting into some of those Mega Man tunes :tongue3
Final Fantasy is still making good stuff. An average of 6 hours a day with that repeative music probably warped my mind in some way.

i think it was around 1997 or 1998, my started bringing home these webster hall cds because a guy he used to work with djed there.

i was always listening to some sort of electronic music, my mom used to order those cheesy euro dance mix cds in the mail and i remember stealing them from her and listening to them when i was pretty young.

1990 :
I moved to the north of France. I had already had previously passion for electronic music or synthesizer crap but when I moved there was this techno radio station right next to this music school I used too have to take classes in.....
Well I used to skip them to go see the djs spin in the radio station and it was a bunch of techno and also some crappy dance

My first love was truly Laurent Garnier WAKE UP ..... OMG what a ing track ! TECHNO MY TRUE LOVE :D

around 92 I moved to the atlantic coast of France and it was kinda harder there but anyhow in 1993 I saw Yves De Ruyter spin in Belgium at a club .....

Since then I went from loving techno to loving jungle drum and bass to chill out to everything in between till I hit it hard with psy trance around 97 98 there used to be a weekly show on one of the national radio stations that played only psy / goa trance and the likes I remember having heard things like Union Jack two full moons and a trout and Humate love stimulation on there for the first time .....
From 96 on too 2001 when I was still in France I was big into house ( I still am ) and techno ( even more ) ..... I had kinda lost that contact with trance when the radio show I mentionned I listened around 97 quit in 2000 ...... I had so many tapes that I recorded off that show even paul van dyk had come in that show to spin !
I even got to see Marc Spoon spin in Brussels in 97 and I also saw tons of techno house djs till the time I left France
Oh and during these years I got seriously into mixing and organizing raves, decorating clubs, running sound and setting up for multiple types of venues etc in my home town as well as in paris in various top notch clubs ( I was so lucky :) )

Apart from this whole electronic music shiznit I was big into : punk, french rap ( wOOt :D ) , indie rock , and every other style around ......

I moved in the usa august 2001 and got back into trance shortly and the rest is ..... I dunno :p
