That's the origin of the name I use all over. I was crazy about ambient music right around the time there second CD came out. I liked the meaning of the word and the special influence it had on me in the electronic music scene. Never thought I would take the name this far though.
I think Brainbug is the first real trance group I ever got into. Before that I was into Guns & Roses & Bon Jovi & of course Z100 radio commercial radio hits. I had a time where I was into movie scores after that. Going back 8 years ago I remember recording Ice Ice Baby off MTV on a cassette player and listening to it while delivering Pennysavers on my bicycle. :wtf:
Before getting my CD burner I would record Johnny Vicious off KTU on Saturday nights and make up my own names for the songs. I would fight with John in the car when I wanted to play my tape and he had some new Hip Hop/R&B CD. I then started buying the Euphoria Label CDs and then napster came along with CD burners and other music sharing sites. I went from 20 MTV cassette recorded pop songs to over 7,000 CD burned electronic songs.
If you want to say video games influenced me, between the ages of 16 and 20 I think I was buying an average of 2 games a month. I remember getting into some of those Mega Man tunes :tongue3
Final Fantasy is still making good stuff. An average of 6 hours a day with that repeative music probably warped my mind in some way. |
tell me you didn't LOVE the soundtrack to Final Fantasy 3 (6). i actually, when i first got my computer, downloaded all of the FF 3 songs. i loooove those songs. and the sephiroth song from FF 7. sadly, i never play games anymore. tony hawk here and there... other than that i will only watch my brother play games. |

french rap is awesome! even though i cant understand it. its just really cool to listen to. i like arsenic and iam. also... i forget the other ones name... something like samurai or shuriken... something japanese. |

I went to Israel during the winter of 1999, and i went there thinking that alice deejay was a great producer and 'she' rocked! lol
i coudlnt stop listening to back in my life, better of alone and atb's dont stop and 9 pm or am (forgot that one) so my friend went into this store and he asked to the guy, i need some good trance! first the guy gave my friend an Astral Projection cd but my friend didnt like it by that time i didnt even know who Astral was, so the guy gave him, DJ Tiesto live at Innercity 1999, and that was it! i couldnt stop listening to that cd, then i bought ferry corsten live at innercity 1999 with the video! which is one of my fav. cds today! and then i just started listenin to the artists of each track in those compilations then i bought boundaries of imagination! (my all time fav cd) and then it all worked its way from there! :D thats my story! |

Okay, I've read everyones epic journey through EDM. Its time to share mine.:crazy:
The year was 1994, I was chilling at this school dance at westland middle in Montgomery County. The DJ played KWS-Please don't go and then Real Mccoy-Run Away (Club attack mix). Oh my god, I was very into the music, and I really didn't care who looked at me funny. After the dance, I was curious about where to find all these great tunes. But I had no luck on the search.
By August 95, my bro told me about a Radio show named "The Mutanted Dance Party" on WHFS. I couldn't believe what were they playing. The music took me to a higher level of thinking. They played tracks like U96-Love sees no color and Jam & Spoon-Right in the night. At the same time, my bro also borrow some CDs from his foreign friends. My bro let me listen to them, and the track absoluted kicked ass. Tracks like Le Click-Tonight is the night, La Bouche-Sweet dreams, Loft etc. This happened in September 1995. I was offically hooked to EDM. Although, I was clueless on genres, I was a Eurodance Freak. By 96, La Bouche, Real Mccoy, 2 Unlimited were getting more into the mainstream.
One day, when my bro came back from New Jersey. He had the face that he was going to tell me something exicting. He said this "Oh my god, I heard a radio station somewhere in Philly or New Jersey. They played alot of dance hits you have on your CDs."
"Really." I said. Indeed it was. Couple months later, my mom was going to China for a visit. One the way to NY JFK, I was searching the radio wave for that station. I stopped on the dail 102.1FM, "Q-102" It was playing "La Bouche-Be my lover." I flipped out. Ohhh I was point to the receiver. For the first time I discovered a station that plays dance music on the daily bases. I was soo ing happy. Well, obession came after that. A few weeks gone by, I was looking for Q-102 at home in Bethesda. Too many sleepless night. :nervous: My disese was cure by a station came on at 104.1FM. Z-104. Again, I was danceing happy.
By 1998-99 rolls, Eurodance took a deep fall from my opinion. The stuff on radio were wack. At the sametime, artist like ATB, Brooklyn Bounce, Sash, came into my mp3 collection. I really didn't enjoy it. Because I couldn't let go the vocal that Eurodance gave me. Well, that was about to change. 2 things that changed my perspective on EDM again. On August 5th 2000, it was my 18th birthday. I really wanted to go clubbing. Luckly Zei was 18+ friendly. So my bro took his woman and me to go Zei. It was on a saturday night. "Glow was in a effect." The sound system was exicent. The club was extra clean. After the 1AM Ball Drop. The next DJ came on and spun Lange-Follow Me (Jam X and Deleon Mix). The song completed changed me. I was falling in love with Trance.

heh :) im probobly the youngest TA in here...well maybe at least in DC & Metro Washington area....
I heared lots of Eurodance tracks back when i was like 5 or 8.... & than when i was arround 11 i first heared ATB - 9PM ....and got hooked :) |

When Nine Inch Nails-Closer came out I was :eyes: It was something totally new and different than anything I had heard before. I listened to alternative rock mostly then. I got the Downward Spiral cd for Xmas and was hooked. I started to listen to this radio show in Chicago called "Alternative Nation" that had mainly Industrial groups like NIN and Front 242, etc. They also played some other electronic stuff too.
Things progressed from there and I then heard Chemical Brothers-Setting Sun. Once again:eyes: So then stuff like Prodigy and other more commercial electronic stuff came into my ears.
After I graduated HS in 97 I went to Germany on a school trip and bought "This is Techno". It had Cox, Hawtin, Vath, Orb and many others on there. Good stuff.
I guess I really got into trance when I read a review for PvD's Out There and Back, went out and bought it and fell in love with it. That summer (2001) while in Germany my brother, cousin and I managed to get train tickets from Luebeck to Berlin to go to the Love Parade for like $15 there and back for all three of us. I got back to the U.S. and saw PvD at the HOB in Chicago with my brother like three weeks later. Needless to say I've been addicted since. |

| Hmm... I got hardcore into it in the beginning of 2002, but I always listened to electronica back in 2000. Umm... although I was a... :::sigh::: rap/r&b whore until then. Although I didn't like the typical rap stuff, I liked the stuff that was highly synthesized and had the emphasis on the melodic part of the music, not the lame as bassline (ie. a lot of stuff that was produced by Swizz Beatz). |

hmm, 1st time I started getting into any sort of electronica was about 1983 when Hashim - Al Naafiysh came out on orbit records. My grandfather and uncle both owned vinyl shops so I got a taste very early. I didnt start truelly falling in love with the sound though until 1989 when 1 of my fav. all-time tracks came out, Joey - Beltram - Energy Flash. From then on it was tracks like Age of Love - Age of Love on ZYX in 1991, then it was on to Red Light for my house feel and up to New York to get stuff from Tony Humphries, Frankie Knuckles, and Larry Levan. From there I found the rave scene with a group formerly known as 2 clues. For those that dont know 2 clues, they were James Christian and Frankie Bones. They used to have a party with Armand Van Helden called "live from your mutha's house", it was also a cd awhile back on empire records. Thats pretty much how I got into the scene. That and heading to Ibiza in 1994, 96,98,99,and 00

I was always into any form of dance music since I was a kid. Whether it was hip-hop, merengue, salsa, or Hot 103's h-h-h-h-h-h-h-hot mix, I loved it all.
My introduction to EDM came NYE '98 at The Tunnel with Eddie Baez at the helm. I didn't understand the music at the time and was utterly perplexed to see these kids dance to music that made absolutley no sense for me to move to.
Then midnight came...and so did 1999. That's when it all changed. After Eddie did the countdown, he played this sick ass song that made me go "oh " and I couldn't stop dancing. When my entourage decided to leave at about 4, there was no music on a pitch-black dancefloor for about 10 seconds. All that was then said was "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to The Tunnel" in the deepest voice imaginable. It led to a huge uproar from the crowd, and I wanted to stay more than anything but couldn't.
About 6 months later I found out the first song I heard after midnight was "Got The Groove" by SM-Traxx and the last song was "Elements" by Danny Tenaglia.
Needless to say, I was hooked. Now, I love this more than a crack baby and his rusty spoon. :happy2: |
