Im looking for a good program to use to mix mp3s.. I want something that simulates cd decks (no auto bpm.. or at least the ability to disable it)
something with pitch bend pitch control etc
Ive tried BPM studio.. but it is not reliable since it crashes alot (or restarts songs for no reason!?)
I heard about pc dj which sounds alright..
let me know your thoughts please.. i have a mixer and 2 sound cards so i would like something that can be compatible with that (more options im guessing!)
ok let me hear it.. suggestions please :D |

| Traktor from Native Instruments is about the best software mixer you can get right now. It has auto bpm and beatmatch function, but if you resist pushing those buttons, you can do it the old (real) way. |

it's oldskool but it rocks.
note, some people (me included) have difficulty with it on WinXP, but on 98 it runs beautiful |

I think that Virtual Turntables is the software for you. It has support for two soundcard and for an external mixer. It doesn't have auto bpm or similar and it's very stable. It's like have two cd-player on Pc, nothing else. I have used it for over one year, i have learnt to beatmatching on it and when i bought two CDJ100 i don't have any problem. Try it, it's very simple but in my opinion remain the best.

i am currently using XP and VTT skips alot and makes dingy noises and stuff.. I dont know how to change the buffering in it.. and to make matters worse.. i have to configure it each time i run it..
Also the pitch controll is stupidly upsidedown for some reason...
Traktor like i said again.. the pitch control is to broad of a range.. and there is a delay in the movement.. so you can hardly use it to match beats.. the bpm is not reliable since it doesnt work on all tracks and its not compatible with an external mixer.. which is a downer as well
Im currently using pcdj and so far its working good with me.. but id like to know other software thats out there thats reliable.. |

yeah, i think you have to upgrade your drivers or something... i don't know, i tried to do it, and couldn't.
as for the pitch control, if you ask me, the pitch control on tech12s are upside down. up should be more, down less, it makes sense.
i know, blasphemy talking bad about technics! like that.
oh well, i have VTT and decks, it doesn't confuse me. |

VTT already mentioned is the most simple to use out of the ones mentioned & is a good solid mixing program. It is most like mixing with TT's but on your computer. Nrg2Nfinit, that usually happens if your soundcard latency is to high, what soundcard u running? I can tell you what u need to fiddle with to sort it if you want.
PCDJ Red is the next step up from this and has a bit more automation, but its still closer to VTT than Traktor Studio, which is what I will come onto next. :D
Traktor Studio v2.0 is the don of mp3 PC mixing programs, besides the slightly annoying BPM counter (which you can turn off) it is the easiest to use, has the most features and you can plug mixers into your PC and make it control the EQ and pitch controls on Traktor2. But it seems in my absence there are more Traktor lovers, as DJ Thy mentioned, it IS the best software availible atm.
I upgraded from Win98SE to WinXP Pro and got MUCH better results with all the above software due to the fact my soundcard (Turtle Beach Santa Cruz) supports ASIO Full DirectX Duplex on all the outputs which gives me an awesomely low latency (about 7ms), although I had probs configuring it to start with in VTT (but I had that in Win98SE aswell :D) |

I have a Soundblaster live 1.5 audio card that im using
I also have an integrated audio card that im using
Traktor 2 Only lets you specify 1 soundcard for monitoring and 1 soundcard for output.. which doesnt work if your using an external mixer since you need to split the channels
I like pcdj at the moments its pretty good i just dont like how the range on its pitch controll is very small.. so you gotta be extra careful with your mouse or press the gradual pitch up and down buttons on the side.. but i dont mind that.. its still pretty good.. and cueing with it is a bit annoying as well.. i wish i could change the keyboard shortcuts for it..
VTT the problem im having wiht it is as follows
1) It always skips on me.. even randomly when im not doing anything.. which is horrible if your giong to broadcast or record a mix
2) The settings that i do keep on reseting so its a pain having to reset it over and over again
3).. It takes hours to load because its trying to detect all my mp3s.. and well it lieterally takees about 3 minutes for the program to load because of that stupid MP3 listing within the program.. i would just like to drag and drop from explorrer or something
4) THE STUPID PITCH CONTROL IS UPSIDEDOWN.. yeah your right.. technics are the ones that are upsidedown.. but still they are the standard haha.. im soo used to that.. it gets confusing sometimes.. when your in a hurry to mix..
5) thats all my questions so feel free to help me out anyone by refering to the numbers
see i make it easy :)
thanks again |

you are probably using windows XP right? yeah.. for some reason it screws up in winXP. i've been told it can work if you upgrade your ASIO drivers or something? not sure, it didn't work for me. if you have winXp, you might not be able to use that program, i wasn't able to.

that's strange mine don't. the pitch range (8% like my techs), the skin i am using, jog wheel sensitivity, position of my decks, etc. all stays each time.

??! mine doesn't do that either! it has a box that lists the files, and that's it, it doesn't populate them or anything, they are just there. i am using the file finder plugin, that comes with the program. but not the playlist one.

well, if you have winXP i think you might be screwed.
it sounds like you might have a trial version, maybe that's why your settings get erased everytime? (there are ways around that you know)
other than that, you should be able to get it to work.
there is an alternative that i was really excited about DTT, Digital Turntables, www.digitalturntables.co.uk, but i think the project has been abandoned, which is a shame. anyone know anything? |

In PCDJ, click on the top where it says 'CFG' and go into the software options. Here you can set the pitch range, pitch bend range, and possibly the keyboard shortcuts too. |
