I'm afraid you're right to a certain extent. But there are lots of people who buy the music after they downloaded a track/album. And that's a good thing. I think age also has a role in this whole issue. The younger you are, the less money you make, the more you'll download and burn (and even might sell). If you're becoming older you won't have a money problem anymore and therefore it's easier to buy the music. At least it works for me this way... I'd rather have the original cd than a copied one. |
I agree with you 100%. Just about all of the CDs I have were purchased because I heard the MP3 first and wanted the original. BUT, I never pay the high retail price for a quality CD; I get all of mine from half.com. If the retail stores would sell CDs for $6-8 I wouldn't have a problem buying it there.
Then there is the problem of hearing an mp3 you really like but have no idea of where to buy it. There really needs to be a reasonable system in place where you can download single mp3's at an affordable price. :eyespop: |

| i'd laugh my ass off if he got caught AHHAHAHA. if he got caught it would be great! but you know whats even more dumber than selling them, is the people are actually buying them! probably ty quality and everything. IMO this guy is stupid and should be kicked off the hub because he's using the real TA's music and dj's music and selling it for his own profit. what a jerk off |

I guess I am just as guilty as everyone else of downloading MP3's but I don't sell them, that's for sure. So, what's worse - selling them or downloading them? This is all qualifies as theft.
Although, I must admit - I do feel ripped off buying Global Underground Oakenfold in Oslo CD -it reaked and it was 100% legit. If I could return the e that sits on my shelves for at least 1/3 of what I paid, I could easily have a nice downpayment for a Porsche 911 turbo.... Hell, when someone asked me before "Do you invest" I would say, "Certainly - in CDs" and they'd be like "OH... wow". Little did they know that it was not Certificate of Deposits but Compact Discs...hehehe :D
So, in a way - MP3s have paved the way for better music buying experience. I am totally happy with having a choice in what songs I have in my collection, that's why if the industry smartened up and made it possible to buy "Guns and Roses - Welcome to the Jungle" as a single track instead of buying a CD with 14 other songs you don't care for - it would have made a big difference. They are just getting to that point now. Anyway, do I think selling MP3 cds is right??? NO, but am I guilty of downloading MP3's??? Yes...
Fellas, every minute the sucker is born - if you don't take advantage of him, someone else will. This is a pure and simple concept on which the capitalism runs. Someone is just cheekier than you to pull it off. So, he's a wanker - we know that... but without wankers no one would appreciate decency, right??? ;)
By the way - you think this is bad??? Go to NYC brighton beach and visit any of the russian music/video stores. About 20 of them in a stretch of less than 1/2 of mile - each peddling 90% of bootleg/illegal music and videos. And this is a business that pays taxes, has a physical address, and several employees. Shelves and shelves of CDs, tapes, Videos, DVDs of copyrighted stuff selling for about 1/2 to 1/4 of original price...
So....
 |
1. I know that the 24-hour law exists in the US for game emulation ROMs so, I guess it probably exists for MP3s too.
2. Younger people who can't afford to pay ~15-20 USD PLUS shipping int'lly would, of course, download MP3s.
3. If more Trance was available on CDs more people would buy it because many don't have TTs or don't know how to handle a vinyl record.
4. My uncle who goes to Iran every year told me that ALL music, movies, software, games, etc. is sold at ~1 USD/CD. It's all bootleg. He told me that there's no copyright over there. Is this true? |

LMAO
I'm not supporting this guy or anything. I hope they somehow find a way to charge him in any way possible (if such thing was possible to accomplish)... |

| here is my view of things...before i had a DSL connection i wasnt really educated about trance didnt know ...i thought compilations like future trance was god gift to trance lovers and payed 25 freakin bucks for it..my god used to send me back...and why the would a cd cost 25 bucks anyways u can get a blank cd for like a quarter..i mean if the cds are sold for like 6-8 bucks life would be so much easier...after i got a dsl connection and started downloadind some mp3s and learn about what trance really is and started to be intrested in djs like pcd and tiesto and now whenever they r in town i pay 30 bucks to go see em play..before mp3 i would like tiesto who??? gimme some dj sammy he is gooood..so mp3s helped alot i think...i would personaly ather pay 25 bucks to see an artist play and enjoy myself than for a freakin cd that i will throw away in a week knowing that i got ripped off....thats my 2 cents peeps.. |

| I was hardcore dling on my 28.8 until last year. they didnt offer dsl or cable in my area till bout a year ago. but the connect has allowed me to view a much larger spectrum of music. My whole argument was the selling of something you dl. i mean to dl is one thing but to sell is a whole new issue. |

That is correct. If it weren't for downloading mp3s, I would still be one of those people who thinks trance is "techno", and I would have never bought a single thing from any trance artist. I guarentee you there are another few thousand members of this forum that could tell you the same thing.
mp3s = exposure = interest = purchases = profits
One might go so far as to say that downloading mp3s helps the industry. Unless of course you're referring to pop, which already has all the exposure it needs. |
Those are precisely my sentiments. Since I started downloading gigs of music a month, I have also started purchasing more CDs than I did before by a large margin. |

| Yeah, this guy has nearly 300GB shared on the hub...yet only one slot open and it's practically impossible to get anything off of him. Very unfair while he leeches from us then makes money off of our MP3 collections. |

The way I see it, everything is OK until we get to the part where he makes profit from it...That's when I draw the line
Downloading is allright, but if you make profit from it, you should be ashamed |

What if you're like me and don't make money off anything but have over 75 CD-Rs full of MP3s and haven't bought a single CD since June 2001 because I can't afford to buy the 50-or-so albums that I want? I'm in an endless cycle of download-burn-get off small 20 GB HDD and back around again. |

1. If you can't afford to buy it, you won't buy it under any circumstances.
2. If you wouldn't have bought it anyway, they couldn't have profited from you whether or not your pirated it.
3. If your piracy has no effect on their profits, then you have done nothing to harm them.
4. If they aren't harmed, no one is.
5. If no one's being harmed, and you're being benefited, how can this be a bad thing? |
