Have you ever noticed?

Have you guys even noticed that most people that get envolved with electronic music want to become djs and most of the times producers aswell? I'm not saying this in a bad way, just something that I've noticed and I think it's cool, helping the scene grow :)

I believe this is because people want to share their music they love with others and also want to create their own pieces of music so that they can express their feelings/emotions. Offcoarse there are also those doing it for the wrong reasons

Cool :)

This thought has been going through my mind every now and then, but I didn't bother to share it.. And now you came up with exactly the same :)

As for me, your thesis holds..

I have been wanting to have my own TT's and records since I was 13 (when I started to listen to electronic music, that's almost 10 years ago), and it grew even larger when I started going to parties (since 1996 or so) and seeing what someone with some TT's, a mixer and a pile of records was able to do to a crowd..

And now.. at last.. last October I finally had the money (didn't say I was saving for them since I was 13, but anyway..) to buy my own equipment.. and it feels SOOOOOOO good !

For the scene, I agree it is a very good thing that most of the people who get into electronic music want to have their own TT's, or make their own tracks.. It really adds to the scene.

Maybe I should try and produce something someday.. I fooled around with Fasttracker for a while a few years ago, making far too simple hardcore tracks (which some people liked, for God's sake ;) ).. Only problem is I can't seem to find the time to learn all the software programs, and on top of that, don't want to invest in the hardware (yet)..

Hi,

My personal point of view on this is that I never hear exactly what I want to hear when I go out to clubs. Not necessarily bad tracks/mixing abilities (though in some cases....), but not exactly the tracks that I'm familiar with.

Part of my motivation to being able to play out has to do with hearing the music I love the most on a really, really loud system.:gsmile:

I suppose another aspect as well is that I tend to think that I have good taste in music, and that I would like to introduce others to the same tracks. For example, I've been circulating my digital mixes a bunch with some pals at my college, and they are all lovin' it.

hmm.. i've been thinking that it might get to a point where there's just soo many dj's that.. i dunno, i guess it will demean the title (ie... the more money printed, the less value its got). Well hopefully.. more dj's = more equipment bought = cheaper prices :D

Yes, but how many "DJs" actually end up ever spinning locally? There's a huge number of people getting into the equipment for the wrong reasons, e.g. "It would be cool!"; without knowing anything at all about it, gives up 1 month later, etc.

You guys raise some good points :toocool:

ALSO... Have you ever noticed when a DJ gets a few big tracks from say chemical or juno that they think that they're a superstar? lol Seriously,,, it's like they think they've produced the track or something,,, sad but it actually happens.:o

@basd - yeah it feels fantastic when you finely get your own equipment, I too want to start producing but I simply don't have the time/money to do so :( but as soon as I finish school I'm planning to focus in that direction, get some music theory lessons etc

anywayz nice points you guys :)

The more the merrier!....

And for those people getting decks that really doesnt appreciate the music, they will end up selling their gear eventually...which means someone who truly loves the music can buy some cheap gear! :D

I agree with you all, and it's a great thing to see - definitely a sign of a vibrant musical genre/style/lifestyle/you-name-it!

But I must say it's not "just" an electronica thing. I mean, naturally anyone who listens to rock has dreamt of becoming a rock star. But with that kind of music, it takes a huge investment in terms of skill and equipment.

uh..wait.. dj'ing is the same..lol nvm then! :haha: :haha:

But just wanted to say that in any genre, you have the people wishing they could get "to the top." Though it's for different reasons.

Hm, haven't thought of it this way - but trance is unique in that those who aspire to be producers/DJ's usually do so for the music (don't want to sound cliched, but it's true), whereas people who want to be the next n'sync or whatnot do so because of the popularity and the getting-laid factor.

ymmv.

I just wanted to listen.......but after listening to Paul van Dyk, and Ferry Corsten. I have developed my OWN music, and I want people to hear it.

Stevek

for me its love for the music and sharing with ppl. For example whenever i get a new tune my brothers, friends can't wait to hear it, and i personally love that and i cant express it in words. :p

That "fact" can be explained.

Electronic is emotional (referring to vox off!) and the composer has to give us what he feels with the music, the melody... the elements of the truck. Just a sound that means too much and transfers great energy to all the listeners. That's why everyone goes deep into the scene. Someones want to compose either because they have the need of expressing themselves or because they want to offer something of their thoughts to us. Other people want to be DJ's because they think that it's better combining all these tracks and make an emotional set and full of energy!!! :D

that's what do i think about this subject :toocool:
