I would rather pay $50 to $70 to see an act rather than have it be packed.

Guv - take my advice, raise the price to $50 per act and don't jam the place.

and in england, cigarettes cosabout 4 pounds(9.83 dollars) for a pack of smokes...u think we should pay about 10 bucks for smokes too??

if u go to a mcdonalds over there, the face value of the prices are the same as the face value over here...the exchange hoever means something else....

i know severl people who didnt come for tiesto cos it was 30+ dollars which is alot for university/ college students to pay based on just part time wages....

its easier said than done...for fanatics like us TAs who wanna go for so many events, if they were to charge so much, we would be able to party maybe only 4 times a year.

Actually, when I choose to smoke I pay about $8 for pack of smokes, so it isn't all that different.

In 2000 I spent $9 CAD on a combo-meal in France [it was for a McTimber (the same as a big-deluxe) and Switzerland. I also paid $8 CAD on a combo-meal in Amsterdamn. I don't think the prices have dropped since I've been there.

I agree the prices are high. But any Gatecrasher event is at least 20 pounds, and personally I'd be happy to go to a monthly Gatecrasher event (since they are now only monthly) and pay that then go a weekly Guv event and be crushed (a-la-labour of love/corsten).

see for labour of love and guv 6 y aniv, they shouldve charged 30 or whatever as we paid for labour of love..sorry..maybe more..cos those nigths were filled with more than one talent..

however on a single night when theres only one DJ, its a bit too much to pay and the gatecrasher events usually haveseveral talents so its ok to pay so much..plus the have longer sets (i think)

You're right on!

The Gatecrasher events for 20 pounds have an enormous amount of talent.

If the Guv wants to charge $40 or $50 for an event, then they need to have the talent (a few top DJs).

Look at the Aria line-up for Indy weekend in Montreal. They better be charging at least $50 / head, or the place is going to be chaos.... Since I hope to go (Jun 13/03) - I hope the price is high enough to keep the crowd reasonablel.

well to see Buuren, Tiesto and Ornadel, 55 is cheap...

however i only wanna see tiesto and maybe ornadel since i heard ehs awesome...AVB is absolutely not in my must see again list.

so there comes the problem for people like me who only wanna see one dj and thats another issue that may come up for many if there were monthly events here like @ gatecrasher

I doubt any university/college student would like to see ticket prices doubled... I'm so careful with money nowadays that at school, I force myself an extra 5 minute walk to a cheaper vending machine just to save 40 cents on pop...

first off, I would like to say that I enjoy going to the guvernment. I have had some absolutely incredible nights there and I think that the moment where I walk into the main room (after checking my coat) is absolute magic. But with that said, I think that the overcrowding is a problem. I was really diapointed w/ the club after labour of love, many of the ppl in my group were unable to have a good time and i felt responsible b/c I had subjected friends of mine visting from NYC to that madness. I appreciate that teh club is able to keep cover low, but I think that there must be a happy medium that exists between cover and # of ppl.
Rather than staying here in Toronto, I went to montreal. The cost of the ticket was around $30 but I got to hear both seb fontaine and danny howells spin. I was really pleased with how the night turned out. One of the ppl in our group went outside to sell a ticket and reported that the line to get into aria was massive...but at no point was the club overcrowded or too crowded to dance. I hardly waited for coat check, I never waited in the washroom or at the bar. I also found the staff to be much more pleasant than at the guvernment. The guvernment is a great club but there is room for improvement. I would definately prefer to pay more to get into the guv and have a higher quality experience. I am hoping that the opening of Lotus and Distrikt will help w/ the overcrowding at Guv...b/c the management at guv doesn't seem to be doing anything about it.
just my 2 cents,
cs

Speaking of how Guvernment is so unsafe...

At least 21 people died in a crowded Chicago nightclub yesterday :(

Hopefully Guv owners will learn from this.

I saw this on CP24 this morning. That is really sad. Durafei, Guv will not learn from this. The most they will do is have the owner write some ind of statmemnt that this was tragic and that he assures this will never hapen here even tho Guv really does not have enough fire exits and they pack that place to its "legal" capacity. I seriously Hope this will never hapen here tho like it did in Chicago.

Try not to oversimplify things. There's a reason they overpack it. More people = more money from alcohol, which is really where they make their money. I agree it's wrong, especially after all the disasters in the past year (indonesia, 50 people dying in a club in venezuela, and now chicago) but it is all about money. Keep in mind they are on EXTREMELY expensive property and djs' salaries are rising at a rediculous rate. You factor in security, heating/cooling, electricity, marketing promotion and you may find they arnt making as much money as you may think.
