djs and their showmanship

When dj's put on a show (for example do funky things when they mix, scratch with their elbows, move their hands to the beat etc), do you think its quite entertaining or are they just try-hards?

do you prefer a dj who just jumps on the decks and mixes without looking at the crowd, or someone who gets into the vibe and dances and shows off his tricks?

Who cares - it's not like I go to a party/club to stare at the DJ...

Seriously, though... I'll enjoy the party more if I see the DJ enjoying himself too rather than having him do the PvD-style blank stare...

lol

but if the dj just stud there and looked bored eless then it might make the party seem a little dim, but maby if the dj jumped around feeling the vibe, it might get the club jumping a little higher.

but i pose thats just me

I think being a Dj should not be a job but a passion ....

I love it when Dj's get into the mood since it helps to get the ppl going to. Last year I saw Judge Jules and he was making jokes the whole time while DJ'ing like taking a song back just before it dropped to make you beg for it ... really a nice night.

Then about 3 weeks ago I saw Tiesto and he was almost the same, not funny but he would really live himself into the music. I remembered him finishing his set with Flesh from Jan Johnston and he totally lost it just like everyone else. He was waving his hand in the air and when the song peaked he almost threw the speaker over that was in the DJ box ....

Was a great night and everyone was exhausted and pumped up after his set .....

The I also witnessed PvD who was on the other side of the scale. The music was nice and everything but you almost had to use "E" to get into it since most of the crowd was just standing there ......

(They probably don't appreciate good trance )

Well its good when dj is involved with a crowd but party for me is 90% music and freinds around me and maybe 10% is a DJ
I rarely look at DJ's

But It also depends on DJ if someone like AVB, PVD or Tiesto rocks up I sure pay more attention to a DJ :disbelief :tongue3 :tongue2

Not so much turntablism for me, but is important to see the dj enjoying themselves.

There's this one Cape Town dj who is technically flawless, and drops the greatest tracks, but he spends all his time focused and in deep concentration.

I prefer a dj who is a little less perfect, buts gets the crowd going (and I dont mean by shouting "Wave your hands like you just dont care!!" over a mic :p)

I know I'm a nutter behind the decks

As much as we may hate (?) Oakenfold, one has to admit he brings showmanship to new levels. His Jesus Christ pose, although cheesy, gets people all worked up and I believe that's what counts.

Sven Vath got us all pretty excited when he came down to our country's Zouk Club for a techno gig.

He might have been a little overdoing it though.. :)
