I used to think this, well, actually I didn't think about this topic at all much, until I began taking psychology classes in college and seeing my friends at school all doing drugs and what resulted from that. Basically, as far as I'm now concerned, 'existence' is merely the brain's perception of outside stimuli. Colorblind people perceive things differently than non-colorblind people, a simple, tiny alteration of the brain such as drugs' effects via neurotransmitters can change a person's whole outlook on life, in some cases. This all has made me feel that existence is much more relative and perceptually defined than I used to believe. The only things that exist are types of energy and we just translate all that into other, more macroscopic things. Is this how you see existence also?

Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu - http://www.clas.ufl.edu/users/gthur...sm/ttc-list.htm

Hegel and a lot more - http://www.marxists.org/reference/subject/philosophy/

I also used to have a page with a lot of excerpts from almost all of Nietzche's works, I'll see if I can dig it up again...

im saying that almost everyone here do that! (thinks/believes something because they were told to or because they dont want to go "against the stream")
we are tought (f i spelled this wrong - i meant "people are teaching us") since the youngest age not to question authority, not to question god, not to question faith and what not?

and rarely it is that we do question these subjects...

i mean how many people and doctorines have we had to follow?
buddha,christ,moses? and a few others...

we DO NOT need to follow
we DO NOT need to follow
and once again: WE DO NOT NEED TO FOLLOW!!!

we need to INNOVATE

we need to CHANGE!!!!!

imagine what would happen if you asked your mom "why are we here?" and she would answer - "that's for you to find out"

That site is ed up.
Mental Exodus
Good stuff psy i love the MOM thing, The site is ok i guess, over the years ive talked about or read up on hundreds of social theories/religions/conspirisies ect. This one isnt any difrent in fact its only broadcasting what many of us think about but never really talk about as a society. (GO FIG JUST ONE MORE TABOO) I wish i had my list of awesome info sites but i cant find it, ill be sure to post it if i do. Anywho I personaly live and have lived by many of the theories stated on sites like this one without even knowing it. Infact tonz of people do, I think this is why the new age hippies arent voting in north america, THERS JUST NO REASON TOO. The same goes for the decline of major religion, Im not going to dive into it but u get the idea. Its mentalitys like thease that cause my friends to drop collage and get outa the rat race. IM SURE SOME ONE IN HERE HAS BEEN TOO OR HEARD OF GOA and the lifestyle many smart young poeple end up in over there. THey basicaly drop outa society and goto goa parties for the rest of there lives and they cannot reenter society no matter how hard they may try. Again I really need my links to back all this up.

While the experience of the outside world is varying from person to person, that doesn't change the actual properties of the outside world. A slim chance exists that this world is only an illusion created by us, but that option shouldn't be taken into consideration, and here's why. If that is true, we have nothing to lose by living the way we are living now, and if that is false, then we have everything to lose by rejecting and denying everything around us. Besides, the theory has some logical holes in it. If it were all an illusion created by us, that means we are capable of creating a world that is in such a perfect order, a world in which everything makes sense and a world in which nothing disobeys its laws, and yet we aren't capable of seeing or realizing that it is just an illusion. Maybe this is just a sort of dream, but we can't know the answer to that until we die. Then we'll either realize it has all been a dream or we won't realize anything at all. But as I said, it's better to make the best of your life because you can not know the answer to that question.

More or less, yes. I think our existance, and the existence of everything has no higher purpose. Basically the purpose of existance is existance itself. Although I do allow that I'm completely wrong here. But since we already do exist, we can either make the best of it or moan about it. Also we as individuals or whole of humanity can create our own purposes to live for. You can say I'm for constructive nihilism :D

i totally agree with that. i guess i think more along the lines of "learn" instead of "follow" christ, moses, buddha, God... every doctrine has a collection of experiences that can be learned from. i think people should be educated about what every doctrine teaches...and then decide what and what not to believe from all the different teachings. i mean..i know im a pretty smart guy but i would be so lost in this world without anything to learn from but my own experiences becuase there is only so much that i will be able to experience in this life time.

why would you rather choose prespectives other then your own?
that way you are only getting half of this experience we call "life".
and above that - the more you follow (or as you prefered - learn) - the less you are human.

do you remmember the movie "the matrix"?
the entire humanity was used as batteries....while being kept in their illusions.

so you have to ask yourself: do you want to be a "battery"? or do you wanna be human?

i dditn say that i woudl take other perspectives. i siad i want to learn from them. i think if i only wanted to think what i whated to think it would ve very selfish and very close minded. the point that i was getting with the fact that i would be lost is that i think i wouldbe better off in the long run with the KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING of all the perspectives on things in the world... with that KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING i could then base my own opinions on soemthing far wider and more knowledgable than i will ever be..on top of my own experiences in this world.
