| Anybody know a decent way to soundproof a room? (that doesn't cost tons of $$$...) If so then let me know. We're just rennovating our basement and I'm looking for a way to do that as the family isn't too happy with my constant blasting of "noise" (aka to us Trance). Even more so because I'm getting decks soon and want to be able to practice...not be forced to do it at certain times when nobody is home or in similar situations. If anyone has any ideas it would be great, thanks!:D |

| go old school and put up the bottoms of egg cartons on your walls. or go to a fabric store and get a ton of foam...in roll form. |

well i heard that if u slice a gino into 1 cm thick slices and spread the fless out on the ceiling and walls, u get immense soundproofingcos ginos are so dense..lol...

you can buy insolation that is sound resistant (seeing as you need insolation in your walls anyways, kill 2 birds with one stone)
i have that in my basement (well half of my basement, the other half isn't finished yet) and it works REALLY well
ill have my tv cranked with full surround sound and the only thing you'll hear upstairs is the walls rumbling from the sub, and there's nothing you can do about that :p
there's also a foam soundproofing you can buy (i got a bunch for free lying around my house but haven't used it yet)
it looks like an eggcarton pattern in foam
i would suggest against the whole eggcarton idea though
if you're gonna do it, do it right and buy real soundproofing
that is a huge fire hazard and if something were to happen, im sure your insurance would find a way around covering you because of it |

Your best bet (as has been stated) is to use either cork, or sound-proofing insulation.
If you really want to go loud, use both...
As for bass (heavy pounding trance bass) there isn't much you can do. It will travel through whatever you use, unless you make the insulation like a meter thick.. :)
And don't forget to put the insulation in the ceiling as well as the walls... :)
If you don't care about athstetics, put the soundproofing insulation in, (with plastic sheeting), then put up some drywall, then cover the drywall with cork. |

Oh, and I wouldn't use LKD's carcass or Ginos...
LKD will probably start to smell after a while, and ginos are a fire hazzard, due to the flamable contents of their hair... and they're probably already sweaty, so they might drip.

You can find it at the home depot. Cheep to! (if you are redoing the room that is). |
Thanks! I'll check it out, I want something cheap but that won't look garbage (as I'm redoing the entire room most likely. (walls and everything). Thanks to Kid lax also for the idea and Trancenerd (although I don't know how much doing all of what you said would cost, I'll look into it). I'll ask the home depot people as well).:D
P.S. Using gino carcass might stink up the house...as much as I'd like to carve up my brother and his friends, meh it's really NOT doable.;) |
