Z you crack me up man ;)
Is your next step to write a letter to Sports Illustrated and tell them to stop printing swimsuit calenders (probably like 90% of subscribers only care about that :p ). Or maybe you should call Playboy and tell them to stop putting so much nudity in their magizines. *this is where you end quote me and say I've said nothing*
Here is my reasoning for putting half naked women in my sig:
1. I am a guy
2. I like women
3. I consider my sig a mini-TA calender, which is why I have the month incorporated into it :toothless
4. I guess I just assume some people have a sense of humor. If there's one thing about that has changed since I began listening to trance a while back is my outlook on life. I could sit around all disappointed at every little obsticle life throws at me; I can spend all my free time studying for school (not that it's not important but getting 80% is not life-ending)...but why bother? life is about having fun! It is natural for men to be attracted to women.
5. I am an individual! I don't have a problem with doing stuff that other people don't approve of...as long as I like it or think it's reasonable.
Why do you always have to be so negative in your postings? If you're not happy with the personallity of those on TA than don't post here. So you don't like half-naked women in sigs (for whatever reasons, I have no idea), who cares...I don't like arguing about stuff that are so childish to argu about.
There is a simple way not to get flamed on here, that's not criticize other peoples taste. If you can't do that than expect to see some hate replies. |

wells i can see charmscars point.. as i've had this talk with LKD and Endlesswave before. i agree it does make the boards feel pretty raunchy to a point, and no less a byproduct of the sausage flame fests we have too. heh, no wonder LKD makes such an effort to get to know all the new TOTA females whenever they pop up to make them feel comfortable here (you'd almost think he was hitting on them exclusively lol) naahh .. :toothless
but honestly the whole sig thing is really only limitted to a handful of people (whom i won't mention, you know who you are!). As for the avatars, I'm guilty of that too .. but hey i guess when there's a massive lack of booty in this place, sometimes it's natural for men to simulate it .. |

just to clarify...
I'm not into censorship, so I'm not saying that any of the sig pics should be banned or anything...just stating my opinion on them. I beleive that it's likely that the prescence of such images will deter girls from posting. Is that a bad thing? I guess it's a matter of personal opinion. Just don't complain about a lack of female posters.
jon: next time I get bitchy w/ you, just tell me to shut up and drink my carrot juice. You know I still have lots of lurve for you.

ps. I'm only keeping my avatar for a limited time, but I'm glad that chris liked it so much! I know it's not as "asstastic" as his sig pic or anything;) |

here's more blah blah blah about lack of women in tech , which is ironically what most of the TOTA guys are studying .. :D

Wanted: Girls in IT
2/27/2003 5:00:00 PM - CIPS says statistics show fewer and fewer young women opting for a technology career. Find out what the association, along with CGI and Humber College, are planning to do about it
by Monika Rola
The Hollywood stereotype of IT workers as isolated office dwellers working on sinister programs is turning girls away from careers in technology, an industry association says.
The third annual Women in Information Technology: Looking Towards the Future conference will take place at Toronto's
Humber College on March 5. The event, aimed at Grade 9 girls, is co-hosted by the college and the Canadian Information Processing Society as part of International Women's Week. The event is one of many CIPS will sponsor across Canada that week.
Aside from the conference, which will pair high school students with influential women in IT, CIPS is also launching a national Women in IT Ambassador program. As part of the program a host of women in the industry have volunteered their time to visit high schools and speak to girls about career choices.
CIPS spokesperson and Toronto-based IT consultant Karen Lopez says the organization got concerned about statistics showing declining interest in IT careers. Informal surveys of 10 universities showed that the percentage of women preparing for IT careers is still fixed at 15 to 20 per cent. She says CIPS would like to see those numbers grow, but that's not happening.
"It's not just that IT is one of those careers which traditionally attracts fewer females," she says. "It's the fact that over the last five to seven years we've noticed that the percentage of the females enrolled in college and university programs has declined. And we consider that a very serious problem."
One of the causes of the decline in female technology program university grads is the fact that girls in high school are taking less math and sciences than ever before, Lopez says. Without those courses, it becomes difficult for them to get admitted into computer science programs.
CGI Group Inc. vice-president of consulting services for government services and utilities Murna Dalton says the problem is caused by a perception spread amongst girls that only geeks are good at maths and sciences. Teenagers tend to get caught up in those perceptions and can't see the doors these courses will open for them down the road. That's why it's important to reach them at the junior level, she says.
Another factor is what Lopez calls the Hollywood stereotype of an IT worker.
"Most girls think that IT careers are isolating. They'll work alone, they'll work in a basement, sit around a glowing terminal and, sometimes, even do evil things," she says. "I think that most young girls would have a hard time identifying with that sort of stereotype."
In fact, Lopez says, studies she's read indicate that this sort of stereotype is key to the dropping numbers of girls in IT careers. Women, she says, identify computers and technology as a communication enabler. To them, the idea of work being solely an interaction with highly complex technology becomes an immediate demotivator. The tragedy of that stereotype, Lopez says, is that IT makes a vast array of career options available and very few of those jobs with fit the stereotype.
There is, however, still a problem of culture in the male-dominated sector, says Humber College School of IT manager of student and workplace liaisons Leah Brown.
"This is true certainly with the students that we have currently," she says. "They are in a pool of students that are in majority male, they have a very difficult time fitting in, being accepted, so there's still a very social issue here."
Girls run into the same problem when they leave the classroom and enter the boardroom, Dalton says. Lopez disagrees.
"As a matter of fact I've even told friends of mine that I've felt that less than what I think other workers feel in other professions," she says. "I really see the IT career as accepting of more diversity than others."
Though this event is aimed at high school students, Dalton says mentoring should step out of the academic sphere. It's important for both female and male workers to feel they have access to company support and people they can lean on as they develop in their careers. CGI, Dalton says, has support programs open to any of its employees. She says her company does not recruit people on the basis of gender, preferring to make the process as neutral as possible. Instead of gender, experience and skills take center stage within CGI's hiring process.
"We want the best person to get the position," she says. "We really work from the resumes."
And that's something that can be seen industry wide, says Brown. While the IT sector has not taken any drastic steps to increase the number of women it is fairly clear that there is no general bias against women working in IT. And in fact, she says, it looks like the IT industry is fairly open to women achieving high level, decision making positions.
"The people who are calling in to us saying that they have positions available, many of them are females in a position of authority or hiring position," Brown says. "That to me is very good news."
Not all corners of the IT industry are lacking in female representation, Lopez points out. Multi-media design and development as well as the data management field tend to have a good representation of female professionals, she says. There are significant numbers of women in business analysis as well.

Buddy, you arn't as smart as you seem to think you are. People don't understand your reasoning because it sucks.. not because they dont read it. It's too bad you don't understand how stupid you actually look on these boards. |
Yay, another *** joining the flame bandwagon. Its funny how you guys seem to team up against the ones that are different. Noone is actually taking the time to think about what I've said, and comment on it.
Even at least quote some of my statements and explain how "they suck".
If I were to repeat what you've said to you, it would be just as justifiable as you saying it to me.
Its sad how people fail to learn even after you explain something to them. You know the saying, stupid people don't know they're stupid? (not intended to you) :(

You said it in another thread by saying how "ginos" are like any other group (be it rocker/raver/whatever) and how I shouldn't hate them because of it. Because hating them would be like hating myself or something equivalent. I never said I hated them to begin with.
|
Yes I remember that, and you said yourself that you hated ginos. Somehow trying to show me that you are not a gino because you hate them.

If you want a conversation then you should ... and maybe bring up some facinating points about life that people want to coment on. |
Actually I just did in this thread. 'Its fascinating how many half naked women there are in these forums. Does anyone care to elaborate?'
But flaming comes...

Nah, you did say something but its not relevant to what we are talking about. Those magazines are bought mainly by guys, and a large portion of them are horny guys that buy them. TA is an online community that is free for all members. So people will come and go all the time. We have many different people on the forums, not only horny guys. The first impressions are important. And I can tell you, they aren't that good on TA.
Now if you had to pay for TA, there would definetely be less people, and even less females. There is a chance it would be only guys...
Girls don't want to pay for something that repulses them.
I also noticed that your 5 reasons why you have women in your avatars/sigs is because of something that you like about it. All your points start with, I this, I that. Have you ever thought about what other people think?
If I were to use an avatar and sig with large swastikas, and fascist pictures, how long would that stay? It would offend relatively the same amout of people as porno. Actually it probably wouldn't even stay there for 1 day...
But I have freedom of expression don't I? I can swear, I can use half naked women in my avatars, I can call people names, I can act stupid, I can even spam, why can't I have some of the other things that are banned?..
People mention about moving away if something is bothering me. Well I'm expressing my opinion here. If you don't like it then I will say what you say... don't read/reply to what I have to say, you will most likely flame. |
