LOL! Face it, racism jokes get more attention from the audience so of course they're going to keep saying them. It's not like many of these top known black comedians are actually racist. Geez.

I make fun of my dad for being a fat little white boy...

I don't see any problems with that.

because EVERY SINGLE CHANNEL on tv is WET. nothing is focused towards blacks in the US. commericals sell white hairproducts, typically white food, typically white entertainment.

some black comedians just arent funny. but if you think about everything that 'white people' in general have done to the african american (race) they can say whatever they want. they are only j.o.k.i.n.g...

its the case with making any generalizations, for a huge group, the assumption fits someone, but on a case by case basis no one can follow stereotypes. lighten up|

Exactly! Black people have been through so much--and are still in large measure going through it: do we have to pick on their humor??

Get off their in' backs already

its amazing to me how some people don't see this. freshman year of college i had a few orientation things dealing with race, and someone asked why such a thing as the 'negro college fund' existed, why there wasn't a 'white person' college fund too. without getting too worked up i tried to explain that everything in our capitalistic society besides that little tiny piece earmarked for the negro college fund, is in some way the white person college fund. some people seemed to understand but it was still a novel idea.

craziest part of the story is that it was a black kid who asked the question...

now, dave chappelle? awesome. i have never been offended by anything he or other african american comedians have said. and even if i were offended, there's a lot of catching up to do with the demeaning power of slavery and segregation.

DO elaborate this point.

The reason is that America is still a racially bifurcated society.

When the subject of race or affirmative action comes up in my house, my family (who are all lower-middle class, first generation immigrants) lapse into the traditional and formulaic argument of most whites: namely, that because they had "nothing to do with slavery" they shouldn't be "penalized" for being white.

This is wrong on a bunch of points but i'll just bring up a brief one. Because America has always been a two-tiered society, white immigrants, no matter how poor they may have been when they got off the boat, automatically landed on the top tier by virtue of their skin color--thus reaping a load of social, cultural, and economic benefits not available to those on the bottom rung.

Since this is the chillout room, we can move this over to a more appropriate forum or you can PM me if you or anyone else wants to continue this.
