Hey, sorry for taking so long to reply but everytime i've tried getting into TA its been down.
Anyway i had a fantastic night! Got in there about 6ish with the Adelaide crew (including DJ Dowlz), had tea, then went to the TA meetup. Cheers heaps to Duncan, Jolene, Paul, and Duncans friends for keeping us company, you're all great guys, apart from jolene who is female but she's a great girl. :) Oh yeah also props to DJ Ballistic for coming all the way over from Sydney, he;s also a nice guy
Got there about 10ish i think and yeah had a look around and stuff. Wasnt anyone i really wanted to see before Armin so i was just trying to make the time pass quicker. We headed over to Vodaphone early cos we heard they weren't letting people in, and we def. didnt want to miss out on Armin!!
After not a bad set from Pee Wee Armin came on, woot!! PLayed a stormer of a set, enjoyed every minute of it. Unfortunately there were damn poofs with no tops on that kept on pushing in front! grrr!! Oh well still had a great time. Me HEAPS of TA's up the front of Armin, so many people just came up and said "do you post on tranceaddict?", so it was great to see so many TA's up the front cheering! Armin was terrific, apart fomr i dont think he should have played Born Slippy. I know its a classic and everything but it didnt really fit into the set at all.
Thanks heaps to everyone in making it worth the trip from Adelaide, you're all great people over there in Melbourne! I'll hopeflly be coming over for Gods Kitchen in October, as long as my car behaves itself. |

What a top class night!
ing mint!
Armin - you are a living legend! Was so good to see him play again - last time i saw him was my last Crasher weekend in the UK - Armin and Ferry b2b @ Gatecrasher, Heaven in London and then Black & White ball the night after at Gatecrasher in Sheffield - he was blinding both nights!
It brought back so many memories to see him again and made me so happy to finally see him play on my own soil. I'm only sorry I didn't get to meet some of you guys - I was too preoccupied with Armin's set to chat to anyone!
Exactly 2 weeks til Paul!!!!!!

two tribes two tribes two tribes....
huh what can i say, it was a cool party the speakers were absoloutly in the house room though, probably the worst sound ive ever heard at a event... haha
but yeah anyway the build up to this was huge and i found myself int he defmix arena with adam about 8 o clock, one of melbournes finest hosue djs (arlen) played a absoloute blinding set, which was such a shame because they stuck him in the early spot with hardly anyone around anyway the event as a whole was a bit disapointing i have to say, thats not to say i had a bad time i mean the5 days i spent in melbourne was ing _THE_ __ (as my bank balance will testify) but two tribes as a event..... sorry guys, perth was better :)
frankie had some leg trouble or some so he played his set sitting down (haha) he also was not into it and you could tell i mean it was great tunes and i was very gratefull to be hearing it but its like paul van dyk when hes up there and just got that blank expression on his face the whole time... my friend adam however got to go backstage and meet him / thank him stuff like that and that was pretty cool, morales was on next and just about when he took his shirt off we said yeah err lets leg it... we went and caught a bit of armin which was great, i especially liked universal nation 2003, adam once again blagged his way backstage and hung out with armins girlfriend and him after the set for about 2 hours!, anyway we left the event a bit dissapointed (just from some attitudes we witnessed) rested up all the next day and then the real trip began!
spent 14 hours in the best record shop i have ever been too (you fools in melbourne, if you like house, goto vinyl rebel 148 commercial st) oh my god. my friend was staying with the guy who owns the shop and this guy is one of the coolest people ive ever met we walked in the store tuesday about 2pm when he opened... stayed alllll day/night till 3/4 am the next morning! just hanging out in the store listening to records/buying records i cant afford etc :) same deal on thursday but not for that long... :) this guy is amazing he takes care of most of the big names when they come in and the shop was opened by none other than frankie knuckles, his enthusiasm and the quality of records (for house lovers) is nothing short of spectacular! also i was informed nicky siano came in and they all had schmooze! ! (for those that dont know who he is, www.google.com , he basically gave frankie knuckles and larry levan two of the most influencial figures thier first gig) he played a gig the night we flew in and we missed it! arghhhh :( in fact on the last day when we left the shop i went off to the airport and pete (the shop owner) went to have dinner with him! (nicky siano) crazy , lotso fun and ive got some cool records now too!
and nice to meet ya paulie! shame didnt see ya for longer have a good one man, hope you enjoyed the rest of your night. |

It was great meeting you guys!
I'll post my experience soon. I'm sorry for the lateness. I've been very busy with work and been tired, recovering from the weekend.
Send me a private message and I'll let you know the URL for my photos when they're all up. |

Okay here's my documentation.
I think the event went very well. It was good to see lots of enthusiastic people everywhere. When my friend and I got in we checked out the GlobalUnderground arena. Nubreed was playing, but it didn't intreest us so we then checked out the Planet Hardware arena and stayed for a while. The music was nice and fast techno. The satellite and space suttle hanging off the roof was a nice and funny touch. I saw at least 4 people doing the "Melbourne shuffle". It looked quite good too. I was intrigued. :) I attempted it with varying success. :)
When the next DJ came on we went to the Vodafone arena. The queue took 15 minutes. It was an epic sight to see the huge arena covered with people, lasers and lights going crazy, and the various things hanging off the ceilings - the "hand of God" poinitng down near the front, a big devil at the back, and the doves. The experience of entering the Vodafone arena is similar to the Sydney Superdome when Utopia is on in there - you look down among the crowd with lasers sweeping above them. The lasers were just like the ones at Transmission. They were powerful enough to stretch all the way to the back. The music was mostly hard trance, the kind I'm not really into. There were some okay tracks though... like Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar (Marco V remix), and Jurgen Vries - The theme (Dumonde remix), which I think has been overplayed in recent times.
I was in the second row from the front, centre, so I had a good view of Armin. He was really into it, I could see he was having a great time and that he loved the crowd. The crowd around me were all Armin fanatics too, quite a few of them could identify tracks well. I even found a couple of sydney people around the front, people whom I've seen at quite a few events before, including Two Tribes Sydney.
We moved to the front centre as Pee Wee played, whose set didn't interest us much, and afterwards came Armin. The crowd around me went wild with screams and hands in the air. Armin was pleased. The good thing about being at the front is that you can see the DJ - you can see the expressions on his face and his reactions to the crowd, and sometimes he can see you in the crowd too, maybe even pose for a photo. Armin was really into it, I could see he was having a great time and that he loved the crowd. It's also great being with the enthusiastic people at the front, there is often a contagious and synergistic vibe that everyone emanates in such an area. It was funny seeing a girl going crazy, like seeing the Beatles in the 1960s, I was happy for her. :)
Armin started slow, but everyone's excitement of what was expected to soon come prevented any descension into boredom.
I'm so glad Mauro Picotto didn't come! Armin got to play for 3 hours, but I still wish it was longer, e.g. 4 hours!
I could recognise a few people from previous events in Sydney who had also made their way down there, so I went up to them and met them. I found Jolene and Phil around the front, and then the rest of the crew. I can't remember everyone - I met too many at one time! Some aliases I remember were Hybrid_Junkie, Wasted_Space, Euphorica, Renegade, SQ-K, DJ_Dowlz, mr_stamper. Who was the guy with the Sony digital camera? I want to see those photos!
You guys have some great track identification skills. Thanks to Jolene and Phil for writing down the names of tracks as they got played.
My best moments were when Armin played these tracks:
Solar factor - Urban shakedown
3 Fingers - Frozen february (remix of BT - Flaming June)
Prime mover - The weapon
Push - Strange world (2000 remake)
Once Armin finished I hanged around a little, and found Phil coming back with the signed "Yet another day" vinyl cover as well as Armin's album CD cover. I was pretty happy for you guys getting the stuff signed! Though am now really disappointed to read that you lost the vinyl cover. Did you lose the CD too? I share your sorrow. :( :(
My friends left and after a break I walked around checking out the crowd and place from various spots. High up the top back proved to be a spectacular view. I took many photos from there. I didn't have enough memory on my Camera memory card so I had to delete many previous ones.
Jason Midro was the last DJ and the floor and seats were still covered with people. He played the "one more" encore track, and then another one... until it finished at 7:15am. When the Vodafone arena finished, I looked around for the Planet Hardware arena, which was closing at 7:30am, but got lost because I wasn't 100% alert. So I made my way back to the Hotel I was staying at.
Was it better than Two Tribes Sydney? I'd say overall it was. I got to experience Armin play a longer set (0.5h longer than in Sydney). The Melbourne event had an epic and grand feeling about it, probably because it was physically many times bigger than Sydney's, but also because of the things like giant blow-up decorations hanging in the air, powerful lasers just like those at Transmission, and a big area in the Vodafone arena almost the size of the Sydney Superdome (I think) completely filled with people. I haven't been to the big events in Europe, but I think this may be the most similar event in Australia to those Europe events.
As someone had mentioned similarly before, I think the Vodafone arena should've only played uplifting/melodic trance. Armin's set was such a contrast to every other set that was played in there. His was the softest-sounding set, it didn't fit in. The sets before as well as after him were hard trance, not really the uplifting and melodic type either.
The fashion of the people were nice to look at. Many people expressed their enthusiasm by the way they dressed (or their lack of dress :) ). Beautiful people were everywhere.
There were lots of things going on in Melbourne for that weekend, because the Grand Prix was on andalso it was Labour day long weekend. There were festivals and shows etc, and therefore lots of people, which made Melbourne livelier. It's probably the biggest weekend of the year for Melbourne.
I had a great time there, and took many nice photos too.
Now I need to catch up on some sleep! |
