something like a chilled out trancyish breaks track

this is just a little something i produced a couple months ago. im kinda new to producing (started doing electronic stuff about a year ago), but i think you might enjoy it. im not sure what genre to call it because i wasn't going for a particular one when i sat down to write... its got a chilled out breakbeat to it (maybe a little chicane'ish) and the music is pretty melodic with some vocal sounds from doru malia's voice refills. its just a chill track in general, so if you like chilled out stuff you may like it.

to make it, i used mainly reason 2.0 and then a little bit o' vst instrument flava added from within cubase sx. then, i edited all tracks in soundforge and finally mixed it in cubase sx. i really like to share my creations if ya know what i mean, so let me know what you think good, bad, ugly or otherwise and ill appreciate it any way it comes :)

Let me say one thing about this track! AWESOME! The Kicks sound good, the snares sound nice, and the perc effects, and light leads, are very, VERY hypnotic! The strings have great effects, and the bass doesn't get in the way; very well mastered! And those vocal FX, that slightly fade in, is definetly creative. I think more people should respond to this track, what the hell? Being a producer myself, I know how hard it is sometimes, and this was very ambitious! Great work man! -mental

thanks for the feedback. its cool to see that you understand the song so well... i guess that is what is should expect from a forum like this though :)

Well, I happen to listen to artists like Aphex Twin, Portishead, and many other Trance producers. I won't name em cuz I'm lazy, but I've been listenin to Trance since good ol' 99, and a lil bit of house since 91, but stopped in between then. (You know those party anthem house hits; can't remember the names, but most of em were cheesy anyways) Overall, the track, is VERY professional. I just hope more people give it a listen and feedback. I might put this track on a CD to bump in my car. -Mental

Okay, I'm givin this track another listen right now; When that vocal comes in...I get these chills. And those light pads on top of the vocals....GREAT WORK! Good filtering! And that begins at 1:14 and fades in...genious! Some people would miss the opportunity of adding a sound like that to make the song 'full', and miss out, but you saw it, listened, and knew that the song would be empty without it. That's why you added the vocal FX, cuz this song would be empty without those two instruments. (Vocal, and light synth).

This has some hidden energy in it. A Mystery perhaps? Some sort of venting, or thinking behind the track, that you the artist felt at the moment. Sounds sad, and mysterious. That's the vibes at I get. :happy2:

Great work once again. Give this a listen guys! -Mental

lol you must be the music psychic or something :p cuz there is definitely a story/feeling behind the song... i called it 'divergence' because i felt like at that time in my life that i had all these opportunities and different paths i could take, but i was clueless as to which one i should follow and it was really affecting me (some of it had to do with the choice of either staying at my current school or trying to move down to orlando to go to full sail, as well as just a lot of stuff to do with life in general)... i kind of felt like i was at a point of "divergence" if you will. anyway, a lot of stuff has happened in my life since i started writing this a few months ago (and i worked on and off for about 3 months, so there is also a progression in the song that reflects that timespan), and what is so very strange is that now i feel like i have been given a direction (like craziness->point->line, but the line part isn't in divergence). I always try to feel emotion while i am writing, because i think that is truly what music should be about.. conveying emotion or at least evoking it in a listener. a lot of times i sit down to write stuff, but after a while if i dont "feel" it then i just drop it, because of what i believe. that makes me not get a lot done, but i feel good about the stuff i do finish. the song i am working on now, is called "emerge" and its about how now that i have found my 'direction' that i feel like i am emerging from this crazy chaotic time in my life into this new focused period where i will get a lot of cool things done (the line in the craziness->point->line example)... anyway, ill quit rambling and i dont know if that made any sense to you lol, but thats kinda the gist of my thinking/feeling. peace.

Great minds think alike. I totally hear what you are saying; That's what music is all about; especially electronica. The beauty about electronica is that its' still growing, and the different styles that people are using to make a song (different genre's as Trance, Prog, Breaks, Ambient, D&B, are being mixed together making hybrids).

You USE instruments that cannot be duplicated, or mimicked by a real live air(Flute, horns), or stringed instrument; instead you use raw saw waves, with FX, or galatic sounding snares, etc. etc. That's the beauty about the electronic music age; room for improving, and growth.

See, you called the song 'Divergence', as to show a 'cross roads' in your life. See, when I heard the song, I thought of 'mystery', cuz there were many questions that were 'unanswered' so to speak. It's like watching a movie, or hearing a score, except there's no pictures, but the pictures in your mind. The notes chosen created images in my brain, and I just thought of 'traveling', and 'mystery'.

When a song is made with much emotion like this, sometimes you don't need words to describe the emotions felt. A sound, a certain note scheme/ progression, and etc. I think most artists try to make stories before they compose music, and a majority of them make it 'obvious' by adding lyrics that tell this story. You told this story with sounds, that were chosen through pure emotions. That's what makes music more than art, but expression, which gives the artist his/her self that feeling of euphoria when others understand the messages. Well, I hope I didn't confuse you, cuz I was rambling myself. Later. -Mental

I lack the ability to be as in-depth and clever as tranzMental, but congratulations on an amazing piece of music! There is definitely a hidden power at work in this track, and you are obviously very talented and I look forward to hearing future productions.
tranzMental
Whoa, just read that comment MaRT. Thanks a lot! The only way I post about music, is if I use all my emotions, to express what I am writing. Critizing, or praising music can be great if the art itself is a HUGE part of your life.

I mean, IF you wanna critique his song MaRT, mention what parts of the song you liked, mention what time it was in the song, and explain how you felt.

See, you also see the hidden power, and 'mystery' in the track. Extalin was clever at putting the hidden messages in this beauty. Great work at the artist! Thumbs up to him.

I just hope more people give it a listen. I mean, I can imagine hearing a single like this on my crappy radio station 93.1 in Miami, cuz it blows almost everything they play on that station. (Almost everything cept on Global DJ Broadcast on Sunday Nights. Heard some amazing sets from George Acosta, AvB, Timo Maas, and Markus Shultz. Of course they play the 'hit' essentials that we TA's drool for.)

But hey man, I think you deserved the praise for you hardwork. Keep it up! Later. -Mental
