Beatmatching with Hi notes..?

how do u guys do it?, im trying to start beatmaching with the hi notes, heard its wayyyy more accurate... but i have a problem
the bass keeps getting in the way which makes it difficult for me to concentrate on the hi.. anyone got an idea about how i can do it?
ideas are welcome

It isnt hard. I do it all the time... tho with a 20000 watt system blaring... i hear no bass out of my headphones.
Most highs are on beats 2 and 4. think of this. The bass you most likely listen to, to beatmatch, is on beats 1 and 3 (unless you are doing breakbeat or jungle).
so in four beats you hear this:
boom ch boom ch boom ch boom ch
1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
so just line up the highs and it is 100 more accurate. but if you are are just learning how to dj/beatmatch. dont worry about accuracy yet. get the jist of beatmatching first then after you can do that confidently then you should learn new tricks

| ya, just listen to the cymbols... it is more accurate cuz the tick of the cymbol usually isnt blurred like the bass beat... a way to start is try playing your records w/ the bass killed and hear what it sounds like... then mix again, turn the bass up, but just listen for those sounds you heard first |

if you can hear eq changes in the headphones, turn down the bass and turn up the mids and highs on the cue track
once i learned how to mix using the high end, my mixes got a lot tighter
and it's easier to catch if the beats start to drift |

| IMO the only way to B/M. Bass is sloppy and not always tight enough to track. I track the beat off the hats. Its always true to tempo |

| I agree what was said before. Mixing with the mids and highs will get you better results. |

actually 2 bass notes and 2 hi hats only make up for 2 beats.
the bass and the hi hat are structured at 1/8 notes not quarter notes. |

| Ya, this way is also safer, cause you can use some high-isolation studio headphones and have them at a sane volume, instead of having a monitor blasting into your ear or whatnot... Plus the fact that the bass note is inherantly slow, compared to higher notes.. Tho with the right system, neither will be blurred... like if you are matching with some studio monitors at home... but that's not much of a party, then... |

| always match with hi's - it's the easiest and most accurate way... put them up as much as possible, so you can clearly see what's going on:) and cut the bass off... works wonders (especially in the club environment - or any other with powerful speakers). |

| It takes some getting used to if your coming from strictly low manipulative mixing, but learning the mids and highs will as someone said "work wonders" for your mixes. It takes time and practice like it took for you to perfect the lows. It’s a process experiment see what works and go from there. Learning doesn't happen inside the classroom, it happens outside of the classroom with the time YOU put in to learn it. Perfect your own style and find what works best for you. |
