i agreed that associating hip hop with thugs is the same as trance with kandy kids..
i dont know why hh/rap gets the most bashing around here. I'd prefer that over punkrock/metal anyday. oh wait, i dislike metal and punk:rolleyes:
hip hop is about life and it aint about thugs or bling bling...
dre dont own nobody, infact who the hell is dre? lol jk oh yeah the guy from the nwa..lol
just go out and listen to hip hop (good hh that is) and maybe you'll see further..
i'd recommend these artists. there are a lot more but here are just some u should try and listen to
Sugar hill Gang
Run DMC-RIP JMJ
J5
Nas
2pac
and who said hip hop aint positive?
download this song everyone:
Nas-I Can
I know I can be what i wanna be
If i work hard at it
i'll be where i wanna be..

i also agree with the comparing hiphop and thugs thing ...
however, it does seem that way, since most artists talk about how much bling bling they have, and how the girls shaking their ass in front of em are so hot because they have so much $$ .. its sad.
i like hiphop/rap, some is good - practically all of mainstream however is not very in-depth.. by that, i mean there's not much in the lyrics at all.
i've yet to listen to Talib Kweli's Reflection Eternal though... i did like nas's latest album .. i also enjoy some eminem...
>>>
just out of curiousity, for those who dont like hiphop.... why not? |

I actually really like hip-hop and I also like "electronic music" so I don't think they're mutually exclusive but that's just me.
I suggest Blackalicious and the obvious: Outkast. |

I personally hate r&b the most.. hiphop and rap are second because of the negative commercial stereotypes they portray black people in. Talib Kweli speaks conscious hiphop which is the good stuff. It speaks volumes when u listen to the lyrics. Not that Eminem crap. |

real hip-hop is ok, but the music (referring to the music not the lyrics) doesn't really move me.. Gansta stuff annoys me to high hell.
I suppose it's good if your the type of person who is more moved by lyrics than music. |

| Just don't like Hip Hop & Rap ... Cant' explain why tho ... it's the same way as I can't explain my love for trance ... something from within tells me this is the music I was born to listen ... :) |

| I will never (probably) like hip hop and rap because the main thing I like about a song is a nice tune with some nice minimal sung vocals. Neither of which are in these genres. |

Hip-Hop is the culture, Rap is its music.
Ok, I used to like Rap back in the days of WuTang and its 36 chambers, Snoop first Album, Cypress Hill, NAS, Roots, etc etc
but it got way too commercial and to be successful in the buisness you needed the mandatory 25 ho's and 10 benz on your first clip. (All rented btw).
When you hear the same song 40 times a day on the radio and another one 30 times a day that sounds alike, you go nuts. I disconnected from that type of music.
At that same time, Internet and Mp3 were more and more popular and it was easier for me to find those tracks made by a guy named tiesto, oakenfold, etc hehe... they simply blew my mind.
I never looked back. |

| I can't stand hip hop and rap anymore,,, and I used to listen to it almost every day from the age of 12 until I was 21. I think the main reason why I dislike this genre so much is becauuse of the atmosphere that comes with it in clubs,,, it's just ing horrible. I'm sure there are some skilled artists that have good lyrics like the guy that you mentioned,,, but to be honest I don't care how good the lyrics are... it would still bore me to death. Trance and Progressive is all I need and maybe even some decent house once in a blue moon :toocool: |
