Hip hop IS electronic dance music. And the most popular and influential music genre in the Western world right now.
However, most of you judge the genre from listening to the mainstream crap that gets play on MTV and the radio. That's just like people that say that trance sucks because they've heard DJ Sammy and Scooter and never been really exposed to the good stuff.

A hip hop dj would tell you that rap is about MCing and hip hop is about the mixing and scratching of the beats. I recommend that everyone see the documentary "Scratch", it has some of the most genius djing i've ever seen. From Afrika Bombataa to Cut Chemist. |

respect for the challenge, but its a losing battle im afraid. i tried to get people to listen to Kweli - Too Late on TA cause its the most euphoric hip hop i have ever heard - but no luck.
the same reason people who like mainstream hip hop like dj sammy is because it is just that- mainstream. so therefore everyone who doesnt bother trying anything new never learns that any genre of music has multifaceted artists.
music is music, there are boring cheesy trance songs and boring rap songs with ty lyrics or beats.
when people arent exposed, or refuse to allow themselves to try something new- they will never adapt their *wrong* stereotypes| |

| This is something that I've been trying to figure out. Maybe I'm missing something, but since when was R&B (Rhythm & Blues) associated with "bitches and hoes"? To me it seems like the complete opposite, as most R&B songs are about love. When I think of R&B, artist like Stevie Wonder, The Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye, Boyz 2 Men, etc. come to mind. Those artists are so far from being "tbugz". |

| The bad side of hip hop and any music is the commercialization... i appreciate trance alot more because its not too commercial over here in north america... I agree there are a lot of good artist out there, including roots, talib kwelli, common, gangstarr, and the underground scene... Taste in music has a lot to do with your mentality towards it, the more ignorant one feels, the less one is bound to change... Prejudice can esculate to war/violence... |

| I just can't enjoy music that is dependent on its lyrics. I don't think it "sucks," but I also recognize that it simply does not provide me with what I, personally, am looking for in music. |

Dude I know you're just taking it too literally. As I said, watch Scratch and listen to what the actual djs have to say about the terms and what it means to THEM. |
