i do notice that trance does seem to be getting back to it's roots, so to speak. listening to the gabriel & dresden global dj broadcasts remind me so much of essential mix oakie. and hearing asot 90 reminded me both of emix oakie, and early magik.
i'm no expert on trance, and timelines and stuff, but things seems to be getting back into the epic, melodic swing of things :) |
I never listened to Oakie because I thought he went away from trance or something. Then I saw in another thread that Oakie was the king of '99, so I downloaded some of his sets.
OMG, those were the sickest sets dawg!! I was blown away. |

Oakie's Essential Mixes were some of the greatest mixes I ever heard - but try listening to Bunkka. |

Sasha and Digweed have always been top 5 in almost every dj poll out there and let's remember they used to play trance. Cream closed because people got fed up with superclubs which is a different issue. How do you explain the fact that tiesto, pvd, armin and others completely pack the clubs around the world...maybe because people like trance. Clubs in the uk like good greef are always selling out, gatecrasher still gets a huge audience at it's events (tho probably will be run into the ground after they fired ben thompson).
Clubs die and as nick warren pointed out the following.
ick Warren - From Sleevenotes of GU024
Nick Warren is unfazed by UK dance music's current, much-talked-about slump. "I think it's fantastic that people are panicking about the business and all the doom and gloom. All the big fish who have made money for years and years, all the big club promoters who milked it without putting that much back into it, have had their comeuppance," he says. "You can't sit on your heels and expect the same people to be going out for more than ten years. It never happens in music." |

| I'm not saying that Trance is NOT popular. But I do think that it lost some of it's popularity among clubbers after 2000, and now it's coming back, due to the high quality of Trance being produced nowadays. |

I have to agree with Ilyia, trance defintely took a step back from things for a few years. In terms of production especially, the market for dutch trance became way over saturated and lost its potency.
Thanks for the headsup on those track Ilyia, I'll try to check some of them out. |

I'm not sure how new this tune is, but I just heard 3 Fingers - Frozen February (Flake remix) for the first time on St. Patricks day weekend (In the AVB & Ferry set).
Now that is a sick tune |

3)Trance never went away or lost popularity unless you believe the idiots in the music magazines, remember them. They said hard house would become more popular than trance and did it? NO
Same people that said progressive would become more popular than trance and that trance would die......did not happen.
4)Trance will probably always be around and it never left.
