I'm want to be a high school teacher, and i want to know if you guys/girls had a nice time there. Do you remember any of the teachers etc.

High school was okay for me. I was never the type to attend all those 'school spirit' events or participate in popularity contests more formally known as student elections/committe or any other similar like that.

Its elementary school that was the worst cause I didn't know a lick of English back then.

As for teaching at highschool, I think that that level of education is the best to teach at.

preschool teacher = having to behave all mushy with kids, play ed up boring, childish games with them, etc, awful :clown:

elementary teacher = same thing to a lesser extent + you have to deal with brat kids that you can't really be too strict with when necessary due to their still tender age

middle school teacher = much better but still its sort of boring, not remotely challenging

high school teacher = best place to be; get payed 2nd highest after university teacher, kids are old enough that you dont have to put up with any bull, you always get the 2/3 kids in the class that have a great sense of humor and make your classes interesting and relatively fun - its a lot more personal than university

university teacher = too much work, why bother imo

As for my teachers, i have very high respect for them. Especially during my final year, i seen them from a different perspective, they were out to help us and to teach us, they became more like friends. I don't think teaching is an easy job, with all the slack you cop off students and lets face it adolescence isn't an easy time and having to deal with 20+ students can be quiet demanding.
I think the teachers who i really connected with are the ones who treated me as a human and not as a student. I think they pushed down the boundaries and authority and made us equal. You have to learn to balance this however because people can take advantage of it and loose all respect for you as a teacher.

Plus the pay is very poor

Good teachers were an exception: I can count on my fingers how many teachers I actually enjoyed studying with.

Teachers need three things: good teaching (so many mediocre teachers out there: you've got to keep the students interested), discipline (although you get the attention you deserve if you're using the right methods) and some sense of humour is always good :)

When I finally finished highschool(2 months ago), I was happy for the first week then I really missed it. I did have some great times, but homework sucks. ;)

Despite seriously massive amounts of cuts and slacking, I had a great time in HS--i made some of my closest friends there.

my high school social studies teacher was actualy one of the people who inspired me to study history, so yes, you too can inspire shiftless youngsters

if you're having second thoughts about teaching rent "Dead Poets Society" or "Stand and Deliver--they'll perk up back up :)
