A world without religion.

Where do you think our societies would be if there wasn't thousands of years of religion?

It would be ignorant to say that religion has had no positive effects on our societies. Having a fear of gods and particular afterlives has caused people to behave according to certain texts and rules. Reguardless of what most people think, I believe religion was made to keep order. From Moses and his ten commandments, to Zarathustra’s Immortality Philosophy, most religions have rules that must be followed in order to obain a spot in a good afterlife. Most of these rules are basic good deeds, others are restrictions of bad deeds. There is no doubt in my mind, that the common perception of "Good and Evil" and also "Right and Wrong" is directly connected to religion.

I await your opinion. :)

I agree with Durkheim: without religion, there would be no society.

Therefore, even if people didn't worship a God, they'd find some other religion-like ideology to attach themselves to. Like nationalism, or communism, capitalism...

We'd need an ideal society with extreme high levels of tolerance in order to change this. But, even then, if your levels of tolerance weren't high, you'd end up creating a schism, and it would fail.

Religion is the most positive force in the world ;)

StoneHenge is our reminder that Religion unifies people for a greater purpose years before any other means are able to.

Still, just like religion, it's a way for society to glorify itself.

I do wonder, though, about the possibility of a society with no concept of "outsider" (i.e. everyone is part of it).
