you may not care, but by announcing my decision publicly (even if it is to a bunch of mostly strangers) i feel it will be easier for me to stick to it. :p
i've never been a heavy smoker (apart from when i'm drinking/partying) but cigarettes have definitely become more a part of my life than i would like them to be. i started out only smoking when i was at bars or parties, then it progressed to smoking after meals and during breaks at work, and smoking whenever i have a Red Bull or whenever i'm in the car for more than 30 minutes. they're totally a clutch for me when i'm stressing or having a ty day... but i don't want that anymore. i'm beginning to realize i'm not young and invincible anymore, and i want to make healthier decisions and not totally up my body.
i don't plan on quitting entirely - i can still justify a few cigarettes here and there when i'm drinking, out at parties, etc... special occasion smoking, basically. i've never actually felt addicted to the actual cigarette, more just the act of smoking. i have gone days without smoking so i don't think it will be hard for me. i figure if i don't buy them then i won't smoke them.
any tips/suggestions/stories from anyone who has successfully quit? |

If you're going to continue smoking at parties and special occasions then you aren't quitting ;) just cutting down.
I'm the same though. It's been a few days since I've had a cigarette and I mean if I had some or someone offered me one I'd smoke it but it's not an everyday thing for me anymore. |

That's how most smokers I've met seem to feel. It's primarily the ritual aspect of it that they enjoy. Has kind of a calming and centering effect or something. |

I don't smoke, but my old roommate used to and would quit cold turkey every time he quit. I'd stick with that strategy :wtf:
good luck! |

what do you mean by the centering effect? |

"Centering" = relaxing and composing your thoughts. |

Why not go the full mile and quit altogether? |

I am a smoker.. are you saying there is something wrong with me? Nothing goes better with a beer than a cigarette. |

at this point i really only have approximately one occurrence per month where i go all out and party into the wee hours of the morning, drinking and smoking and indulging in all those hedonistic pleasures. i don't really feel like it's necessary to take anything away from that as long as i stop my weekly smoking habit. |
