u gotta be kidding right Akira is great, but there were better anime made around the same time. Patlabor (same director as Ghost in a shell) was made in 1988 i still think its years ahead of Akira in terms of story/ visual.

i found Patlabor a little dry, and not as imaginative as Akira

still it was an awesome movie :)

i liked, Patlabor's sly detective yarns, initially mamoru oshii's style of evocative montage in his films didnt catch on suprisingly, but the public caught up to oshii once Ghost in a shell got released i guess.

There's a lot of anime available on the net. (At the moment I'm doing one of my experimental downloads:D) Has anyone of you heard of "One piece". I guess it's about pirates, isn't it?
