Hey Gang,
A friend of mine who writes for a local magazine is doing an aritcle on what your definition of a "True Music Lover" is. I told him I would post on here and get your input. This is a matter of opinion so lets try not to flame anyone here... ;)

THANK YOU! I agree 100%. Mocking someone's musical interest just isn't cool. :p You can dislike a genre of music, but abstain from bashing it.
Having said that, I also think that a true music lover should be open to venturing out into different genres that they perhaps wouldn't normally listen to. |

I couldn't have agreed with you more. I mean a true music lover should appreciate and respect all forms of music from around the world.
But I think the biggest thing is that you should be able to appreciate the music on a different level. It should make you feel a certain way, and think a different way. Music is a form of expression, and as such it should be able to be felt |

I agree, music should be able to be felt. The best kind of music is that which induces good feelings and diverse thoughts. How can you go wrong with music that is conducive to bliss? :) |

a true music lover (example: moi) imo is one who has a passion for music from a young age and knows how to play at least one instrument (real..not computer).
A true music lover can also sing in key and beat.
A true music lover finds some sort of good in all other genres of music other than his/her preffered genre
A true music lover cant get through a day without listening/playing music in those 24 hours
A true music lover can hold a conversation about any kind of music with anyone and can relate to specific artists of that genre.
A true music lover has a sense of curiousity to experiment with/listen to new styles and innovations in music
A true music lover has a general idea of the background/ history of various popular genres at least |

why is everyone saying that a "true music lover" must appreciate all types of music?
whats so wrong with being devoted to just one? if someone lives and breathes one type of music their whole life, who's to say they have no love for that music?

well by usage of the word appreciate, its intended that the person doesnt HATE and bash other genres
every music lover is true to 1 or 2 main genres but doesnt hate any other kinds.. |

I'm with the Geek on this one....
Here's my def'n:
"The Term "True Music Lover" is a matter of one's opinion. I myself listen to a wide range of music on a regular basis (all the time). I don't classify myself as a professional in the different genres of music nor would I want to. Music is a very personal thing for me and for others in general. A "True Music Lover" can only be defined by the person who see's it for what it is..... a lover of music." |
