Chivalry....should we keep it goin??(caution: touchy subject)

so yea...the topic was started last night by graham bout buying the woman a drink..

now heres a question:

Women fight for equal rights and take it to offence when a guy says anything about what a woman shoudl do etc. which is ok cos now we are almost at teh point of equality between sexes where women are considered as good if not better than men. This IS the 21st century.

So if we are all equal now, why should Chivalry exist and women expect men to be chivalrous if they are equal? why should i open the door for her? why should i vacate my seat so that she can rest her tush? why should i let her walk before me?

im a civalrous guy but this is a question i keep pondering while i act with chivalry

Having good manners has nothing to do with people being equal...

Women dont want equality. They want better then that.
Consider: women demand equal rights, equal job pay, right to vote etc. all very well and good.

PLUS the guy has to make the first move, hold the door open, jacket if it rains etc. etc.

But meh. I'm a nice guy, i'll do it anyways. Dosn't really bother me that much.

The only thing that pisses me off is reverse discrimination ie: a women gets hired instead of a man cuz the company needs a larger female staff to be considered to be treating ppl equal, even though the guy may have better qualifications
THATS BS

theres good manners and under good manners comes table manners, speech etiquette etc and then theres chivalry which is good manners towards women in short its not like the women are chivalrous to the men...does that make them not have good manners?

That is the problem with many policies that exist within organizations. That is one of the criticims of affirmative action, why should you hire those of a visible minority if there are others more qualified for the job. But then the whole getting a job process is fairly tainted anyway because getting a job is often based on who you know, and not what you know IMO.

Anyway back to the chivalry discussion. I sort of agree with Liam, If women want to be treated fairly, then why should we place them on a pedistal by going to great lengths to be gentlemen. Don't get me wrong here, I will always give my seat up on the train for someone who needs it, I will always hold to door for the person behind me and give my sweater to someone who is cold, be it a man or women. My point is why do actions such as those I mentioned above have to be directed only at women. I mean, if we all hold the door for someone behind us, and help those who are in need, doesn't that make society better, not to mention the fact that it feels really really good on the inside when you help someone. Anyway enough of my rant

It's tough being a nice guy.

How does the old saying go. Oh yeah
