agreed,
but in that case, you dont' need 'anything' to be happy. Happiness isn't something that's easily obtainable by materialistic goods, or things such as love. I don't want to drift off form the original discussion but, it seems that the way our bodies operate to process 'love' is simply a matter of mechanical operations mainly caused by the nervous system in one's mind. And this can go for all the other human emotions that some would argue is what distinguishes us from machines. But...I think I lost my train of thought..

love is nothing more than a chemical reaction in the brain, equates to eating large amounts of chocolate... sometimes people mistake 'love' about someone with an obession, i've seen it happen way too often with people around me... anyways, back on topic, you do need something to be happy; i agree it's not as easily attainable as materialistic goods (thats a given), but its the desire for your perosnal happiness that is an intregal part of your drive through life... |

Then why have sex if you can be happy doing other things? There are varying degrees of happiness, we desire love and companionship more than we desire 12 airport-sized toblerones, even if the chemical process is the same. Maybe because love and companionship offer long-term happiness and chocolate doesn't? |

it depends on the person (why have sex? catholic priests take a vow of celibacy to worship god, that makes them happy)... i agree there are varying degrees of happiness, and thats obvious, but regarding your last question, and going back to some earlier posts in the thread (ie. is love materialistic), again, it depends on what your personal desires are, if you think money will bring you happiness, then go marry money, i'm sure you'll be happy, at first... |

But you can't deny that humans in general desire sex & love more than chocolate......
If all things were equal and it was down to personal preference this wouldn't be the case.
My cat has sex but I doubt he's thinking "must share my DNA whilst also ensuring my species continues" while he does it. It's an instint. And no matter where you go in the world people desire companionship. |

not sure if this will make sense but your arguement is making me think this:
if it is possible that love is a chemical thing then meds would be able to amke you not need it as much. and i dont think that is the case, is it? |
