Perhaps you should get your facts correct, even places like Japan which is extremely advanced and developed (oh yes far ahead of England) they have people with guns commiting murders. Yes it's true Americans do commit more violent acts of crimes with guns than other nations, but that does not mean that those living in other countries are immune from this.

btw Britain's population clocks in around 49,997,100, whereas in the USA we have approximately 291,112,865. With 5x the population of Britain, I would think that we would have more instances of crime happening.

Basically Joeh152 PISS OFF with your belief that this could never happen to you and it could only happen to Americans.

There are something like 11,000 gun deaths in america each year.

There are something like 60 gun deaths in the UK each year.

So america has less than 6 times the population of the UK- but more that 183 times the gun deaths.

the UK has approx 1 gun death per million people per year

the US has approx 38 gun deaths per million people per year.

if the US had the same gun deaths per million as the UK, america would have to have a population of over 11billion.

.

According to your own CIA.gov

The uk's population is actually: 59,778,002 (close on 60 million, as i though).

the us's population is actually: 280,562,489

So, based on these new correct ammounts.

The US's population is only 4.7times more than the UK

But you still have 183 times the gun deaths.

good day to you!

i'm not debating that that england has lower gun deaths than america. I am just saying that even though you do have a lower gun death ratio than america, it could still happen to you, sucka.

so good day to you.

enough of this madness.... you totally misread my post and are stating facts that have nothing to do with what i said.

i said britain not the uk please read carefully(as the uk would include some other territories such as wales, northern ireland and scotland).

Actually Great Britain includes;

England and surrounding islands (excluding the Isle of Mann)
Wales and Welsh Islands
Scotland and Scottish Islands

Areas included in the UK but not great Britain would be:

Northern Ireland
Isle of Mann
Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey, Alderny and Sark)
+Overseas Territories (Such as Gibraltar, Falkland Islands etc. etc.).

But wales and scotland are technicaly part of Great Britain - not just the UK.

No, it is most unlikely that it would ever happen to me. All it took was some nutter to shoot some children with a handgun for us to ban them.

btw if you ever come to america i would like to show your ignorant ass some good old american hospitality.

I have been to America - and during the 5 days i was there were were about 8 gun murders reported on the local news.

And talking of hosbitality - i was amazed how rude people were as a whole. Of course the people working in places where they would likely get tipped (resturants, in the hotel) were very polite - fancy that. :p

I would much rather live in a country where even the police dont carry guns:

When they police don'tt carry guns (such as the in the UK), then criminals have no need to. Sure it would give the criminals the advantage if they had them, but for minor criminals a gun would get them in far more trouble and simply wouldn’t be worth it.

However, in the US - the police carry guns - therefore it’s a necessity for the criminals to as well. If the criminal didn’t have a gun then they would have no chance to evade capture, and of course, if someone in America is caught carrying a gun i suppose they can just shout a lot about their constitutional rights to carry one.

Although, apparently the constitution doesn’t protect civilians right to own guns anyway - it simply allows militias (ie. Armed groups used at the time to keep order) to possess fireams. Or something like that.

I came from a country, where anarchy, violence and chaos are a part of society, no respect for human life, and people would kill easily for $5.. its a shame cause people there are so nice, but there are many that are not...

I went to a bank there and i was shocked to see the security with shotguns, not only that, they were loaded, cocked, and they had a finger in the trigger, all the damm time...
When i went in.. i thought i was taking an overseas plane trip, i had to empty my pockets, then i was frisked, then i was made to walk thru a metal detector... all this to make a deposit... hmmm... Life is scary for many people in the world, we are very priviledged and we take so many things for granted...

i could go on all day.. but i wish not to...

what country are you talking about?

Switzerland - 0.50 (1999)
Scotland - 0.12 (1999)

Well there are probably some truths to both sides. Incidents with guns happen all the time, all over the world. The U.S. has her problems, but the U.S. is made up of people from all of the other countries on your Stats list. USA is also a LOT more diverse culturally which leads to a lot of tension and friction. Japan is almost 100% Japanese people. There is no racial or ethnic tension over there like there is here. Sad to say, but it's true. I wonder what the number is like for a country like Iraq? NOt that anyone has any real stats for that country since it's been closed off to the world for so long.
Mr Kirk
I would have popped a cap in your ass just for the fun of it, so consider yourself lucky this guy was feeling kind..

NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE and quaet here in australia :D well we have few shots here and there but nothing big :)

Unlike in the country i was born at (estonia) you can hear gunshots everynight, consider counting the shots instead of sheep every night when you go to bed.

But yeh it suks all up about people thinking theyre better than others with guns etc, lucky you are alive doode, take care around yr place next time aye :)

Chicago is such a great city. I was just there a few weeks ago. SO much to do and the city isn't too compact or too spread out. Just too damn windy!
