Venting post regarding car insurance

WTF is wrong with this industry?

I have to pay $1,700 per year with driving school discount to be 3rd driver on a 2003 corolla. while that is extremely expensive, that is nothing in comparisson to the cost of what happens if i get into an accident.

if i get into ONE accident and it's my fault my parent's premium goes from $3000 a year (with me) to $6800 / year without taxes for SIX YEARS. not only that, in case you haven't heard car insurance will be rising in the near future in ALL insurance companies by 20-40%. so i worked it out and if i get into one accident i will be paying about $50K to drive for 6 years with one accident.

how do they honestly expect people from the ages of 16-23 to drive? i don't know about you but i don't know any 16 year old who can afford that. maybe a 23 year old but if he/she is going to university it is not going to be fun times.

all i know is that if they don't do something about this and soon, it's just going to be getting worse and worse until driving turns from a necissity to a luxury. When this happens the amount of people who drive are going to plummet extrodinarily and this will cut so many jobs. it's not like there isn't a shortage of jobs as there is. In Ontario, the main source of income is automobile related. can you just imagine what will happen?

and yes i have looked around for other insurance companies but it may get a bit cheaper than this but not by much..

who knows, maybe this kid who is pissed off that he can't get his license is on to something..

lol... I wouldn't mind insurance going up. Nuff cars (and pollution) in the GTA.

i've learned this injustice all too well in the last couple of years ..

it'll also irk you to know that someone who lives right across the street from me on Steeles will likely pay 40-60% less on insurance just because they have a 905 address compared to my 416 address just because statistics show that 416 drivers are more likely to get into violent accidents and does not take into consideration anything to do with population density in the GTA ..

you see insurance is high because there have been a lot of fraudulent claims in the last few years and I even remember hearing once from a broker that the insurance business is actually losing money these days ..

this problem could be solved if the Ministry of Transportation imposes mandatory driver testing every 5-10 years & better enforcing road laws but then it would cost the government too much so they'd rather download the cost to the drivers but they don't realize the human loss of life and the economical loss is greater by someone dying in an accident..

solution? try to gather support for a government that will impose more strict road laws and enforcement and also require mandatory driver testing every several years and you'll see the cost of insurance drop significantly..

- end rant ??

They don't.

There is a little loophole, but it requires an initial investment and some creative thinking...

What makes you think that?
No sarcasm at all.

Because the answer to that question is "get into a car, turn on ignition, shift to drive (clutch then gear if you're manual) and gas"

The biggest kick in the balls for me is that my family has 3 cars and
3 people with liscenses, thus each person has to be first driver on one car.I'm first driver on a 1994 Mercury Sable and it costs $5000 a year even though I went to driving school, have a clean driving record & my car isn't even worth $5000.

What a ing scam.
