Giuliani to Europeans: Anti-Semitism has held you back for two millennia

Anti-Semitism is a huge problem in this world yet again. I can't really say it disappeared ever, but it was at a standstill for a while. As of the past couple years more and more hate crimes have been happening, and more and more disturbing comments are made from high-ranking public officials.

Yesterday former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani spoke out to an international conference of 55-nations (Israel’s age:) ) on fighting anti-Semitism.

Anti-Semitism, he said, is "a burden that has held Europe back for two millennia" and is generated by the same hate that led to the attacks by Islamic terrorists on Washington and New York.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, which tracks anti-Semitic incidents, said last month that attacks against Jews in Europe have reached the highest level since World War II. Since 2001, the center has documented 1,300 anti-Semitic acts in France, including the burning of a Marseille synagogue and the stabbing of a rabbi in Paris. In Britain, records show 1,308 attacks between 1998 and 2001.

If only more, noble world leaders would speak out...

The Europeans should have been criticized ages ago! It must be clear to them that the deep roots of hate that stem through European society, could not, and will not, be allowed to sprout again into a catastrophic annilation of peoples who believe in the Jewish faith.

I've always wondered what this fascination of hating Jews comes from! A mystery to me at least!

Found this presentation a few days ago... comments on it anyone?
http://www.conceptwizard.com/pipeline_of_hatred.html

It is called the "Pipeline of Hatred" and describes the new antisemitism that portrays itself as anti-Zionism, anti-Israel and Holocaust denial.

The function of this new antisemitism is to delegitimize Israel thus making Jews vulnerable world-wide.
The origin of this new antisemitism is radical Islamism.

Well, anti-Semitism has always been around because Jews have always been the scapegoat whenever something bad happens. It is always blamed on the Jews. I'm very surprised at the number of attacks in Britian between those three years. However, I would not consider all of Europe to be anti-Semitic. Heck, the U.S. has groups that are anti-Semitic. Or, for other hate, for two hundred years we've shown hatred towards blacks and enslaved them. While I do agree that the Holocaust was probably the worst genocide in mankind, it doesn't make us totally innocent. Roosevelt refused to let a boat filled with Jews enter the U.S., and they were all sent back to Europe and were killed. Wasn't there a thread of anti-Semitism in that? The U.S. had slavery and then dejure segregation in the South, and isn't that considered hatred against a specific group of people.

While I think Guiliani makes a few good points, he speaks as though racism/anti-Semitism/any hatred against minorities never occurs in the U.S. We have a past full of sin just like Europe, so it's not fair that we should be criticizing Europe; we have that same hatred right here at home.

I'm not saying that the United States is innocent... far from it!

But we haven't seen such a large number of attacks directed towards Jew's in America. Yes there are hate groups that are still as vibrant as ever, but if we look at the over all picture, we see that France is the new Germany, and the rest of Europe seems to be looking away from the whole "problem".

America has its own flaws throughout history. But if we look at today’s situation in regards to racism/hate, America seems to have done a lot more to put an end to it!

As for hate crimes in America, you shouldn't say there haven't been so many in the U.S. In fact, I did a paper in English about the hate crimes against Jews in America as my end of the year project. I bet you remember the Crown Heights Riots right? There have been plenty more too. Arabs attempting to burn down temples, anti-Semitic children/teenagers beating up Jewish children/teenagers, etc. There was a case a couple years ago in San Francisco where a group of 15 anti-Semitic men nearly killed two Jews, who only survived by running to a security guard a couple blocks away. While I agree that you may not hear much about hate crimes against Jews in America, there are certainly plenty of them.

Truly a saddening problem we have to deal with for the simple fact we we’re born Jewish... it’s funny, as much as the world hates us (Jew’s), I wouldn’t be anything else!
It’s in my bones; in my veins; and most of all, in my head!

Hell ya I'm agreeing that North America has its fair share of anti-Semitism, but when compared to Europe it's NOTHING!!!

And when you compare the trials of those who commit hate crimes, America sets a world precedent! You can't compare the the two continents when it comes to this issue... Europe wins hands down!

Blik
1308 attacks in 3 years

I mean come on, that is nothing when you compare it to the "attacks" on black people
Galapidate
Oh, I'm sure the lynch mobs and hate group uprisings of the 1960s were nothing compared to European hate crimes in the past three years
