my defense of G&D: Arc was stupid to put them on after J00F...you NEVER put progressive DJs on after a high energy trance DJ...thats just dumbness!
Thier Essential Mix (as with most EM's) was pre-recorded and edited by radio 1 on a computer, not live, so ofcourse they wont sound as good that live.
And I can account for atleast one of their mixing errors...Dave told me one of his CDs started skipping right in the middle of the mix and it trainwrecked him...
as for their style of mixing, I like it...so what if they dont play the original cut of a song, so what if they screw around with it and chop it up and layer other songs with it...I think that is pretty cool and unique, and to me, it sounded great.:)
also, you gotta remember, they are in the studio producing the stuff you love most of their time...they arent full-time DJs like J00F is, so even tho I agree their mixing had a bunch of flaws, cut em a little slack |

Was it? It might have felt earlier to me cause I wanted it to end so badly, I was tired, spent, drained, deathed. |

| I could swear I thought I heard JOOP - Act Of God, during J00f's set. |

If I remember correctly, I think something similar happened at the afterparty.
Does anyone else recall that happening?
btw, I'm not comparing but making more of an FYI that I found out today: J00F is busy with some productions of his own
Look out in September

yeah, I know J00F produces as well, quite good too :)
but G&D are in the studio wayyyyyyyy more than he is...I mean, just look at all the freakin remixes & productions they've done lately under G&D, Motorcycle, Andain, Attention Deficit, etc...it's insane! |

Anyone know the name of the song that J00F Played. The one that was like "T- 20 seconds, 19, 18, 17, T-15 etc etc etc."
I thought it was a really good song :) |

the cd skipped out of andain into our new remix of dave gahan's "i need you" - as it goes, pioneer cdj 1000's have a bug in some of the first units they made where it doesn't read cd-r's properly that have less than 20 minutes of music on them. i happened to be playing the dave gahan off a cd-r that only had that track on it, and the laser skipped while i was trying to mix out of beautiful things, one of our most un-dj friendly outros - so yes, it ended up in a trainwreck.
in addition, no, our music doesn't sound good after someone who is playing psychedelic trance, but i did my best by playing an acappella vocal first to change the vibe.
our essential mix (and GDJB's) was not mixed in a computer - it was mixed live into a cd burner and sent to england. there were no edits done but us. radio 1 edited it so that it would fit into a two hour show and put the "essential" drops over some of the tracks.
one moment i'll never forget: when the crowd sung "as the rush comes" in unison. that was ing awesome!!

that part singing to As the Rush Comes was unreal. THough as Beema said the vibe was tough to match after J00F's set which was amazing, high energy or not. I think I need to see them again before I make a full assessment of a live show.
J00F is king! :eyespop: |

i had a really great time at arc:D i was really excited to hear J00F (I was waiting for him to come back to ny after i saw him at arc for the first time few months back) and he didn't disappoint me :) his set was little harder than the one i heard before but i enjoyed it so much! g&d was a disappointment for me but i guess it was difficult for them to spin after fleming's bangin set....
it was really nice to meet lot of ta's that night too! ;)
i can't wait til J00F comes back to ny again :D |

but he did absolutely 0wn.
btw, G&D didnt just mess up once or twice, i counted four major mistakes before 5:30 (that gives them, what, 45mins?) including a trainwreck the likes of which i havent heard since James Holden live@venue and a REALLY terribly set loop during "as the rush comes"(they looped that jam and "on a high" to hell, god knows why).
beema, i wont cut them slack for being full time producers because its one thing when you mess up on someone else's song, but when you mess up your own bloody track thats just inexcusable.
i dont take that cd-skipping excuse either. the decks are mounted on suspension at Arc (i've seen people in the booth boucing them for fun) and CDJ-1000's buffer the whole disc i believe so that they play it all off cache, making it damn hard to skip.
edit: ooops, i didnt see dave's actual post on that. my mistake. sorry, dave.
what was with the lighters during "beautiful things?" fire hazard anyone?
im just going to shut up now and say i had an awesome time anyhow and everyone that was there made it a great nite (except smelly meatheads).

I thought j00f was pretty lame. I never did like goa or psychadelic stuff... not in heavy amounts at least. It gets too boring for me and after anhour of j00f I was sick of it. The man didn't have enough variety to keep me interested. I came for G&D anyway - more my kind of music - so I wasn't expecting too much from my j00f experience anyway.
I was sitting around somewhere in the back until G&D came on. I thought it was them when they started with those vocals... They played the junkie xl mix of dirty sticky floors and I knew I wasn't listening to any of that j00f stuff anymore. I thought they spun a great set. Sure they had a few messups but the biggest was from the equipment and the others were really minor - no where near the kind of bad mixing we've heard from a certain dutch dj.
I've gotta give 'em credit for their unique style too. Their set was more like a live show which was really refreshing. We need more acts like this.. unique style and all! I liked all the loops and acapellas they used and all the twists they put on their tracks. Really great stuff. And they spun some nice breaks too - i really love breaks. That one with near the beginning got me especially excited with the I'm on a High vocals layed over it.
They definitely should have put G&D on before j00f though. Gotta agree with that. As always, it was nice seeing a few TAs... and Thomas, congrats on your record deal... you should have asked for more money though  ;) |
