As far as I know artists receive a small percent from the sales of the albums and they make more money doing concerts, advertisements,etc..

Sound & Vision Magazine did a great expose on the RIAA and the record industry. They laid out step by step how the record industry is completely wasteful with spending, has outdated business practices run by profit-hungry execs, and out of touch with its customers. If I find an online version of the article, I'll post it here.

I drop $600 into the industry monthly.

I can download all the ing mp3s I want.

P2P was/is the main reason for getting Broadband. And they should be thankful for that.

Artists should set up some kind of mp3 payment option on their sites so fans can suppport them directly. A lot of the songs I have that I love I would pay for. The fact that record companies and music stores are affected doesn't concern me, only the artists matter.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think this doesn't happen because when they get signed their contract explicitly forbids them from doing so.

God I hate these s...They're just mad because I'm not shelling out $20 for some ing crap top 20 cd that I've never listened to or had the chance to even preview. God, I spent about $100 on vinyl tonight and man, I think that File-Sharing has mad the good artists get even better, the amateurs get a taste of the spot light, and has weeded out more ty get-rich-quick "artists" than anything to date. I seriously doubt they'll be able to shut down the deeply embedded 0sec distributions on sites that are all across the world. The truth? The MP3 will never die, it will only get better.

the RIAA, I'm not paying 20 bucks for a CD that doesn't even have all the tunes I like. If I only like a couple on the CD, I'd rather d/l them.

They can sue however many individuals they want.. They can't sue everyone. These people are doing more harm than good. What's the point of there quest? File swapping will continue to exist no matter what they do, servers in other countries etc etc can not be shut down.
